And just who were you trying to fool? Huh? Huuuhhhhaaaghghgghhghg

Does anyone else think that this scene (starting at about 6 minutes) is badly localized+badly voice-acted, mostly by Sora? Because rewatching it, it is cringe-worthy. Sora acts really weird in a lot of the cutscenes during TWTNW segment of KHII, but this is the icing on the cake here, imo.

And this exchange:

Sora: What was that?

Mickey: His eyes couldn't lie. (???)

Sora: Lie? And just who were you trying to fool? Huh? Huuuuh??

How does that even make sense? What does Mickey mean, why does Sora respond that way, in that way? And everything he does after is weird too, like asking Riku what they should do...which should have obviously been 'attack Xemnas'. I know he's not the brightest bulb sometimes but even he's smarter than that. This scene pisses me off as do a few others, but I wanted to know if anyone else shares my opinion or could enlighten me on what even happened there. I kind of want an exact Japanese translation of that specific part just to see what it originally said because it is mind-boggling as it is now.

Here's how I see it.

Mickey: His eyes couldn't lie.

Sora thinking to himself: WTF does that mean? Okay, Sora. Try to think of something to say. Maybe they won't notice!

Sora: And just who were you trying to fool? Huh? HUH[puberty]?!

Mickey is obviously alluding to the symbolism behind Riku wearing the blindfold, which was used to surpress his darkness and keep him from fully losing himself.

As for Sora... he's just dumb, I wouldn't bother with it. Plus being with Riku again might have caused him to be too relaxed in that particular scenario.

I just believe Sora tried to think of a good response.

It certainly works in a comedic sense, but again, this is Sora we're talking about.

Could you stop talking about Sora being dumb please? It's annoying.

No, sorry. It's a writing thing that bugs me and I will continue to complain about it.

Somehow, I could see TheKingdomPanel doing a video about this. xD

KH2's writing at its finest.

First: what Firaga said about alluding to Riku's darkness.

Second: I actually find Sora's response normal. Mickey alluding to Riku's darkness isn't totally obvious, so Sora probably thought that Riku's blindfold has just to mask his face. Just a blindfold isn't a convincing disguise- or a way to "lie" about his identity- so Sora was teasing Riku. He was making fun of his disguise becuase no one would be fooled by it. I actually like Sora's response because teasing and giving Riku a hard time gives a glimpse at how the two acted with each other before KH1 (same with "Cause I'm not a total sap like you"). This scene and a couple of scenes in Coded are pretty cool in that they show us more of Sora and Riku's friendship before darkness and the Keyblade came between them.

Third: I have NO excuse for Sora asking Riku about what to do. I think maybe now that Riku was back, Sora was just like: Sweet! I get to turn my brain off!

The reason why this cutscene makes me cringe so hard is because it looks like it's from a fanfiction. I don't have any problem with the voice acting here, really.
