What's the strangest way you've acquired a console /game/technology?

Posted

So this isn't really a game but I wasn't really sure where to put it. But I guess it could be kind of a game :D

So I'm sure that at least a few of us have an unorthodox tale of getting a console or a game, whether it was an arm wrestle or a gift for saving the presidents life, whatever it was, just explain away over here!

My slightly weird story is how we got our ps2. I think I might have already posted this somewhere, but it wasn't in a lot of detail I don't think xD

Basically my dad's a taxi driver, and when people try to run from the car without paying their fares he tries to grab hold of something they own, so they have to pay. Most decent people straight up tell my dad that they can't afford it, so they do a deal. Sometimes m dad gets books, toys, haircuts, free food, but one time he got a ps2, and a couple of games.

So that's how we know have a (slightly dodgy) ps2!

One time I gave money to my friend at school and told him to buy me Mass Effect 2 because I wasn't allowed to get it myself. Amazingly, he actually did it.

i work at a recycling center and we get some older consoles from time to time, best one was an old NES with like 15 games lol

i think in 10th or 11th grade this kid i sort of knew came up to me during lunch and said he'd give me his copy of Half Life for PS2 if i gave him my granola bar. i gave him the granola bar and he just pulled the game out of his bag and gave it to me. it worked fine too. i played through the whole game with no issues.

I bought a cheap used PSP with 100$ my Great Grandma gave me for Christmas. I bought it just for BBS when it first came out.

Recently I also traded in my PS2, a few games and gave 100$ to get a PS3 for the Remixes.

Weirdest would probably be when my Grandparents bought these laptops for Walmart, and they got a free Wii because of it. They gave it to my dad though since we already had a Wii.

Well, I can say the strangest way I broke a game system! I once was playing my DS Lite on a recliner chair and it somehow fell into the side of the chair, where the seat was separated from the arm of the chair. No one noticed until someone reclined it and then the chair wouldn't go back to its regular state. My mom was really mad that someone had seemingly broken her chair, and then after a week of looking for my ds I look in the chair and see something shiny and blue.......the ds was just wrecked the top and bottom screens cracked and the case bent and scratched. It turned on but it was virtually useless for playing anymore. The chair still lives on to this day.....and I refuse to sit in it still 3 years later....

A friend of mine found a copy of Chrono Trigger lying around somewhere in his house, and he just gave me the game xD

I bought a new copy of Batman: Arkham Knight for used and got all the DLC at GameStop once. Turns out someone wanted to get the PS4 bundle, but only wanted the PS4 and not the game, so they traded in the game, which I ended up buying. I also got the special preorder edition of KH 1.5 HD Remix with the special artbook case months later because someone preordered it but never picked it up, so they still had one in stock.

In my junior year of high school, I was talking to a few kids I knew in my history class.  We got to talking about video games, and I said that I wished I had a PSP because there were a few games I wanted for it.  A girl that I didn't know too well said that she had one, but she didn't play on it because she didn't care for games.  So, she said she'd give it to me for free.  I said okay, but I didn't think she was serious.  Well, a few days later she came to class and gave the PSP and games she had for it to me, free of charge.  And yes, the PSP is in good condition and works fine.

Wow! All you guys who had schoolmates give you/buy you games have the best luck! I could never imagine a friend of mine buying me what I wanted even if I gave them the money xD

Although, this girl in my class gave me a bag of GBA games once when I told her I'd take them off her hands (she had to sell all her handhelds)

The strangest and most amazing way that I've received a console was at an unexpected garage sale.  I was just traveling through town with my family when we saw one lone garage sale being run by a grandmotherly lady.  She was selling all kinds of goods, and on one of the tables, mixed in with a pile of junk, was a DS Lite in excellent condition.  It was missing its stylus, but apart from that it was great.  She sold it to me for $5!
