So I just filled out my first job application and after answering the questions I received a response of "thanks, but you didn't match what we're looking for"  and didn't even submit the application.

WHAAAATT??

Either you people want help your don't.

You'll go through some trouble when you are job hunting. It's normal that you be rejected quite a lot, so keep trying.

Oh, trust me sister, hunting for a job is much more difficult than one would think!  Just hang in there and keep searching, for I'm sure you'll nail a job soon! I'm currently job hunting myself, and I'm persistently handing out resumes to this one store that opened up last week called Bargain City! I've handed out 11 resumes so far there, and I'll keep handing them out until they realize that I really need the job, and then they'll hire me!  At least, that's what I hope will happen! X3

But yeah, best of luck to you! ^^

I'm guessing some of the questions you filled out were designed to automatically disqualify applicants if they didn't meet certain criteria. When I was submitting to job postings on Indeed.com, for instance, at the end of the questionnaire there was sometimes a final question, like "Are you willing to do so-and-so?" Or maybe they'd ask how many years of experience you have. Failure to answer correctly means they reject you outright -- you don't even get to submit your application. Frustrating, I know, but eventually you'll stumble on a posting where someone may actually read what you submitted...

Yeah, I submitted my first job application recently. It got through but then they sent me an email saying I was unsuccessful. I was disappointed, but that's life.

Yeah someone sure is delusional.  The actual environment of the is nothing like those questions.

It is insanely hard to land your first job, especially one that requires a degree and experience.  Don't feel bad; it's definitely not just you.  I know plenty of people that struggle to land a real career job, especially for the first time.  It's very competitive out there, especially depending on your field (was it something with computer science or business?  I thought that's what you said before but I can't recall) and location.  I'd say just keep trying and send out loads of applications.  More will be rejected with a simple glance than considered, but eventually you'll find that right person that is inclined towards your resume. : )  Good luck!

That's why I'm looking for a basic seasonal job right now - I have little job experience.

Not a bad idea.  Even if it's something outside of your major it'll still look good on your resume, showing that you've got that go-getter attitude and are keeping busy professionally.  : )  I think you're on the right track!
