I mean, this is surprising for a Metal Gear Solid game but MGS5: TPP is my least favorite game in the Metal Gear series for a few good reasons. Well, for one, the story is not as great or emotional as the stories of previous MGS games. This is a huge surprise to see that a MGS game have a lackluster storyline since all the other games in the series had a good story. It really felt like the story was just completely rushed to me (and I'm pretty sure that's not Kojima's fault given Konami's recent treatment with him). No only does the game's story feel rushed, it's also incomplete. Yup, there's hidden data in the game that has data of Chapter 3 in it. Which means that the game was originally going to get a third chapter. But for whatever reason, it got removed or cancelled. Also I know this is my personal opinion but I kinda hate the who "Venom Snake" plot that they used for this game. I feel like this should have been about the real Big Boss and not just some random character who mentally think's he's Big Boss (except for the robotic arm. Glad Big Boss didn't actually get that). Also it really makes wonder just what the heck Big Boss was doing while his phantom was running around pretending to be him.
There's another thing that I am disappointed with Phantom Pain. and that is its missions and open world. OK so in the trailers back when the game wasn;t out yet, the open world looked really good and it seemed like that it would really be an interesting concept to see a MGS game to have some open world. But it turns out that their "open world" is not all that great. The entire "open world" stages in the game are just sandbox areas with hardly any life outside of enemy soldiers and a few animals. I mean seriously! The open world just feels lifeless for the most part. Also I have a HUGE problem with the missions in Phantom Pain. Well...the side missions to be more precise. The side missions are super repetitive. You pretty much do the same missions again and again with a few tweaks here and there. It's really repetitive. They should have made the side missions more unique and different because they are pretty much the same missions did you did already. Heck, even Peace Walker had better side missions than this, and that was a PSP game.
So yeah, those are my two cents on why i find this game to be a bit disappointing. This game is not completely horrible but it's really disappointing and not as good as previous MGS games. I honestly think that all the reviewers should not have given this game a 10/10 because it does not feel like a 10/10 game to me. But hey, it's MGS so even the name alone makes it a 10/10 game, am I right reviewers?
