Mystics Apprentice 2,397 Posted May 29, 2016 I have always been a huge fan of Square. I've loved almost every game in the Final Fantasy series and enjoy many of their other titles in like (Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Secret of Mana, et cetera). While I certainly do enjoy a game chock-full of cutscenes and high-def graphics, there is something that I genuinely miss about the old-school games and the old RPGs that Square used to produce. I know technology is advancing and everyone is moving toward newer, better graphics and more cinematics, but does anyone else miss the classics? Would you really enjoy seeing a new Final Fantasy game made in 8-bit graphics with a quality storyline and a lot of the other simplicities that made the older Square games just phenomenal? Perhaps I'm alone here, but I greatly miss the old style RPGs and would absolutely love it if Square would make a new RPG with an older flair, even for a throwback anniversary title or something. This trailer, though old, made me further realize how much I would love another 8-bit Final Fantasy game. Square Enix made it as a trailer for Lightning Returns, recapping the previous two games in the XIII trilogy. Personally I think I would've enjoyed Final Fantasy XIII so much more had it been like this example. Does anyone else desire an older style Square RPG, or do I just miss the past all too much? : P 3 Sendou Aichi, The Transcendent Key and Organization member XV reacted to this
Axtwyt 500 Posted May 29, 2016 Technically, the video is 16-bit, not 8-bit.But yes. Square should realize the reason we love the older games is because they were simple.
Trece the Xam ( ▀ ͜͞ʖ▀) 3,859 Posted May 29, 2016 A lot of die heart fans love the old graphics. I don't know if I'm a die heart fan, but I surely prefer the recent graphics, and I've played like 80% of the FF games and finished like 70%. Regarding the story, let's be honest, FFIV, FFV and FFVI had awesome stories, but before that the stories were kinda awful, and the best stories are generaly the following FF, so I don't think 8-bit graphics change a thing there Anyways, I guess it just comes to personal taste 1 Sendou Aichi reacted to this
MythrilMagician 6,963 Posted May 29, 2016 I personally wouldn't say that Final Fantasy should get the 8-bit treatment. It'd probably be better that there would be a new title that's like the baby child of FF (kind if like the Bravely games), but yes, a new 8-bit game every now and again would be great. Isaix 924 Posted May 29, 2016 I agree,I think there should be more games like Mega Man 9 and 10.Big companies like Capcom,Nintendo or Square Enix should make a division in their company that makes new games with 8-bit or 16-bit graphics but without the technical limitations of the past. How awesome would it be to have a new Link to the Past,Super Metroid,Final Fantasy VI. I prefer 3D games but there was a nice simplicity in old games and that's why I love indie games like Shovel Knight,Shantae and the Pirate Curse or Elliot Quest
The Transcendent Key 12,109 Posted May 30, 2016 I've played some of the old school Final Fantasy titles in addition to the newer ones, and I love both the retro and modern takes on the series! But I have to say that my favorite Final Fantasy of them all is Final Fantasy IV! That's a powerful, old school FF game! The story, characters, setting and overall tone are amazing, and I've repeatedly said that FFIV would make for the perfect anime! X_X The XIII games are great too, though I've yet to play Lightning Returns! I played X not too long ago, and I have to say, it's one beast of a game, and I love it! In terms of getting an old school looking RPG, sure, I'd be all up for it! It's good to rekindle the flame of nostalgia once in a while, ya know? And I think Square knows how much we love the old school RPG's they've dished out, so I'm sure they could come to an agreement to release an old school RPG every once in a while, ya know? 1 Sendou Aichi reacted to this

Guest Posted May 30, 2016 I couldn't agree more: Square Enix needs to have a new series in 16 bit. Pixel art is an art style that has stood the test of time. Just look at how glorious Project X Zone 2 looks with a pixel art style.
Sendou Aichi 2,356 Posted May 30, 2016 The executive producer was beaten by a mere cacutar and bucnh of puny arrrows?! What SORCERY IS THIS! Also I would love an old-styled FF, as long as it has the ability to disable random encounters in it(or like Chrono Trigger). I do prefer Square in their older days anyways. One of the reasons I like the Castlevania games(before the abomination called Lords of Shadows, of course...) is that while Konami did upgrade the games as time went on, their style remains their same, including the art-style. Sadly, I don't see it happening.
