Side Story time! (I did promise to do it after all).

- In the not so distant past -

- Henry's side story - The Night of the Howling Wolves - Rriolea -

"How did we get ourselves in this situation?" Asked the unnamed knight who stood behind another one, their backs facing one another, and around them a large group of mildy drunk, and some extremely so, assailants around them in a tavern in the edge of the city of Rrioles, which was always one of the most unruly cities of their territory, mostly with the locals not being very friendly to knights and their like, albeit the two of them weren't even really knights just yet, they were just in name, and it wasn't all that far off from just common guardsmen, with the exception they'd be sent to other towns to check on any disturbances that require their help. It was better than being given a post to watch over a point like some others have the displeasure to though.

"I honestly have no idea". The second knight answered, just as confused as the first. It was only ten minutes ago they were drinking reviewing what their mission was. Apparently a bandit group had made their lair to the west of Rriolea, with bandit raids being common and in enough strenght for the town guard to have trouble keeping the small town safe, men would be caught and kidnapped as well as women, the latter for obvious reasons. So on request of the town's chief Sondon had sent a duo of Knights to check things out and, if possible, fix the problem.

"Your kind isn't welcome here!" Said one of the drunken men surrounding them, the man hiccupped at least three times uttering that sentence, showing how drunk he was, as the same men charged at one of the knights, "Henry, on you!" The knight shouted in warning as Henry gave the assailant a well deserved right hook to the gut and a leg sweep to knock him down. This caused most of the crowd to step back as they just saw one of them getting knocked down.

"What's wrong? Quick to throw insults but too cowardly to actualy throw a punch?" Henry taunted them, which caused two to rush them, one with a broken bottle, but the same man was quickly disarmed as Henry's fellow knight ran up to him, grabbed the man's arms and threw him over him, onto the ground. As Henry sidestepped the second drunk's punch and gave him a light, but effective punch to the chin, knocking the man onto the ground easily.

"Thank's Jack" Henry spoke to his fellow knight as the crowd rushed at them all at once now, four on Henry and three on Jack. Henry did his best to block, dodge and weave between the blows of the drunken assailants, and it was indeed easier than if they were sober, but it wasn't a walk in the park nonetheless. Managing to grab one's arm as he attacked and giving him a quick blow to the throat to incapacitate him, Henry got blindsided by a beer bottle being broken right on the right side of his face. Causing him to stagger to the side, but controling his stance enough to not fall to the ground, dizzy.

"You asked for it!" Henry expression lit up in anger, he had his back to a table, which proved beneficial as one of them charged at him, but Henry was quick enough to sidestep and grab the man's head, slamming his face into the table and kicking him to the side, as he took the initiative by grabbing the chair to the side and slamming it into the man who had previously hit him with the bottle, leaving only him and one more drunk, who was quickly dispatched by an uppercut.

Henry dusted himself off and rubbed his hand on his head, little blood, but it wasn't bleeding, thankfuly, as he looked at Jack's progress, whom had knocked down two and had the last drunk on a chokehold, leaving the man unconciouss as they walked towards each other. "No taverns for us it seems, let's check it out with the head of the guards here." Jack proposed, to which Henry nodded as they walked over to the counter, the scared bartender and the waitress were hiding behind it, Henry and Jack each placed four gold coins onto the counter, with Henry apologizing. "For the trouble we've caused, and the chair I broke." Henry spoke. As they left the tavern, with a non-lethal bodycount of at least Ten men.

As they left the tavern they were greeted by a guard, who had just arrived at the scene, and who quickly changed his posture as Henry and Jack approached him.

"Excuse me sirs, but what happened in there?" The Guard asked.

"We were reviewing some information and one of the customers decided to get a bit hostile with us." Henry explaied, as the guard's reaction was simple and non-chalant "oh!"

"Guard, may we meet with your head of security in this town? we need to speak to him." Jack proposed, to which the guard shyly nodded, but not before speaking first. "A-alright, the others will handle it from here, i'l lead you guys there myself." The Guard spoke, beckoning them to follow.

"Alright" Henry nodded as he and Jack followed him.

Kind of a short one for now, but i'l have the second part up soon.

I was thinking about the past of my characters and, for some reason, I thought what would Aura do that she doesn't want anyone to know about. Then I realized that she is seen as someone really impulsive and reckless, and never shares what's going on inside her mind, but she put those feelings into paintings. Although, she's never been seen painting by anyone but her mother, Aulea, or her brother.

I like how this came out. It shows a more tender side of dear Aurora :D

Kind of a short one for now, but i'l have the second part up soon.

Henry and Jack seem like they were good ol' brawling buddies, pairing up and taking down dozens of men at a time.  I keep forgetting, but was Henry a member of the Black Knights, or was he an undesignated knight back in the days of yore?

Very nice artwork, Elrandir!  I keep getting desirous to pick up the pencil and charcoal again just looking at all of the good artwork on this site, especially from those here in this roleplay.  I especially love the eye sheen and the decorative flower.  I could never do that with manga artwork, but then again I am abysmal with manga artwork and lean more towards fractal line art.

I hope she will display her artwork to some of her affiliates in the roleplay in the postbellum reformation.

Thanks, and I'm glad that you like it. I always thought that Aura would like lotus flowers and I always associate the flower with her thanks to its meaning of enlightenment and rebirth. She will enter a new stage in her life now that her brother is gone, she understands that each action has consequences, and she will have to learn to live with her new form, which she will find out soon enough.

Maybe one day she will. I'm sure that she would fit in with the painters in the Artisan's guild back in the north. Maybe she could rise to be the court painter!

But that's yet to be decided.

P.s.: I would like to see some of your art too.

The drawing is indeed fantastic, Elrandir. I haven't read your short story yet, Scrap, but I plan to when I actually get a peaceful moment to do so. I'm sure it's great, though. :) I really love all of the creativity that has been a result of the RP and its characters.

So I'm curious: if everyone were to choose a favorite character out of the entire cast, with the exception of their own characters, who would it be and why?

I have a number of favorites, but I think if I were to choose one it would be Helios. It's been very fascinating to see Helios go through so much growth, and despite the pain and suffering he's endured time and again he's willing to come out a stronger person and follow his heart. Stardust really made him real with his emotions and decisions, as well as his ambitions and dedication to his friends. :)

Henry always excelled in close combat, which is why he was one of the only ones that could keep up with Effie. :)

Jack was one of Henry's friends during his ascent from guard, to knight, to Royal Knight. Henry never were a Black knight as that is another specialization and they weren't recruiting at the time.

The sub story was at the time Henry was a newly fledged Knight, having just earned the title alongside Jack.

The drawing is indeed fantastic, Elrandir.

Thanks alot, Mystic.

I think my favorite would be Helios too. He has grown since the start of this story and it has been awesome to witness that development.

So, yeah! Helios is at the top right now, but I like all the characters. Each and every one is very unique.

The lotus is a great flower and is especially a good choice for Aura.  As for a court painter, make sure Rabiyu keeps Aura clear from living paint and magical paintbrushes. The Overworld doesn't need any painted trolls a la The Elder Scrolls IV:  Oblivion.

I'll see if I can get a bit of artwork laid out in the near future.  =)  It's nothing too tasteful, as I'm untrained and an amateur still feeling around the waters of artistry, but hopefully it is all right to showcase.

This is a tough one for me, as there are a great many characters with whom I can empathise and sympathise.  Foremost I love Ren's character, who is funnily enough another member of the three transgressors.  I like Helios as well, who almost tied for first place, for his wide range of emotions and tough choices.  Third place goes to Shiva who had a very rough leadership and always had her heart wrestle the crown on her head.  Fourth place goes to, for the brief moments he even showed up, Swanson, the lovable half-wit who toted an axe even greater than Armads in Fire Emblem.  The rest all tie for fifth place, great in their own bountiful ways, and yet I cannot seem to pick them out of the crowd well enough to call them my favourites of this RP.

Ah, that makes sense.  I was wondering what branch he ventured into, and I thank you for clarifying!

Choosing a favorite character is so hard, everyone is so amazing. I honestly love all of the characters, their developments and choices. Everyone has made choices and actions that has driven the story forward and given it the character it has. Everyone is amazing!

For first place I'd have to say Henry. His stubbornness and evolution as a character from this mysterious ex-knight who is all bad@$$ and strong, seeing him slowly let his guard down and show his humanity. It's been so interesting to witness, and I really like him.

Second definitely has to be Shiva. To see her as not just as this amazing Queen, but as a mother and see those moments where it shows that even she has flaws. She's amazing and her character had me waiting for her next interaction from beginning to end.

Third has to be the twins. Seeing them evolve from characters who got involved into something big, to seeing them take responsibility and go as far to give their lives in a war that they could have easily said no to or run away from. I've loved seeing them evolve as characters, and showing us how tough humans can be.

I love every single character, though. They're all amazing!

tfw no one loves your characters. :

And to be honest, it's difficult to pick favourites with a great cast like this, seriously. But really...I'd personally say Shiva's my favourite. For many reasons, but all of which make me wish I was in the RP earlier just so I could see her more or have my characters talk to her more.

The same can be said for Helios and Henry, both awesome characters, the former being so developed and the latter being badass as hell while also having his intricacies and struggles, particularly with a dead Fey in his head.

But really, I love all of ya. <3
