Positive Post: When did you realize this series is special?

Posted

Hey Guys and Gals!  There's been a good string of Positive Posts recently (the negative ones are getting boring anyway), so I wanted to continue the positive vibes with some simple questions that will open up our feels and help us remember the magic that this series has brought to our lives.  I'll start with an easy one that all of us should be able to relate to:

When did you realize that this series was going to hold a special part of your heart, or when did you have your first "Oh WOW!" moment with this series?  It can be a cutscene, mechanic, a game as a whole, whatever you want.  Follow your heart!

Mine actually came before KH1 was released.  I was sitting at home and I believe I was watching one of my favorite TV movies on Disney Channel Johnny Tsunami (Hows that for a dated reference?).  When the commercials came around, Disney Channel was giving an inside look to a new game called KINGDOM HEARTS.  At first, I was only slightly intrigued.  All I remember before they showed gameplay was some girl going on about how the game had been in development "For TWO WHOLE YEARS!"  Whoa, younger me thought.

Then they showed it.  My first glimpse of the series that would steal my heart.  The series that would later become my favorite of all time, one that I would love unconditionally, one that would lead me to tattoo myself TWICE in commemoration to this masterpiece.  It started with a young boy swinging on some vines, but what really grabbed my attention was when this boy, along with Donald and Goofy for some reason, came running into an arena to face off against Cerberus of all things.  CERBERUS!?!? AMAZING!!!!

I knew from that moment on that this game was going to be amazing and I had to have it, and I am happy to say that I feel as if I still feel the same magic for this game as I did back when I was only 12 years old.

Please share your experience, I think we'd all love to hear it

I love that this thread is still going.  Everyone Keep it up!  This is great!

When I played KH1 I didn´t see the game being special, I used to see it as an entertaining and interesting game, then I reached the ending and had tons of feelings that day. The franchise became special from that day onward.

This may come off as weird but when I first got KH1, it was because I had a dream about it...or so I thought it was KH1 at the time...it was actually KH2 that I remembered... but still I liked Kingdom Hearts 1 and 358/2 Days and then I got to the highly anticipated KH2, when I got it, my memory card couldn't handle the awesomeness, I literally was bawling because I wanted it so bad, so I had to go to GameStop the next day and get another one. When I hit that part where Axel has Kairi in Twilight Town, for some reason that struck a cord in me where Sora knows where one of his long lost friends finally are and has to race back to find them, that made me realize how much I liked that game and the series in general, I mean it's a Disney crossover of our dreams for goodness sake!

The moment I realized that this series was special to me was the moment I booted up Kingdom Hearts II on my PS2!  It was the first Kingdom Hearts game I had ever played in my life, and the clerk at Sam's Club had already told me a bit about the premise of the game, and I was already intrigued by it!  But when I played the game, and I traveled to all these Disney worlds, everything seemed so wondrous and magical to me!  Thanks to Kingdom Hearts, I got into Final Fantasy, and you could say that it got me into RPG's in general! :D

But what connects me to these games the most is the connections I feel with the characters!  Never has any video game hit home with me like Kingdom Hearts does! Riku, in particular, is a character that I relate with a lot!  He struggled to overcome himself, his insecurities and his fears, and that's something that I was going through in my Junior High years!  I was a very insecure person, and I hated myself back then, but seeing how Riku pushed onward with his fears and redeemed himself, accepting himself for what he is, that's when I slowly learned to accept myself for who I was, pushing aside my fears, ya know?  My friends, family and God also helped greatly, but Kingdom Hearts holds a special place in my heart because its characters helped mold a part of me, ya know?  And the themes of light, darkness, friendship, they're all conveyed so beautifully, that it's just spectacular! :')

I've been a Kingdom Hearts fan for ten whole years!  And I'll always love this amazing video game series for as long as I live! :D

The moment I began hearing this right after the sick ass intro that was Simple and Clean.

I fell in love that day.
