Why Kairi will be important and a key part in Xehanort's plan in KH3.

Posted

So as we all know, Kairi hasn't done much in KH which saddens me because it's not very often you can play as a princess with a sword hacking away at the darkness. But now that Kairi can use the keyblade, she will be a key part in starting the keyblade war because she acts as a double edged sword. She is one of the 7 princesses and most likely a 7 Lights, so all Xehanort will have to do is target her and he wins, because even if the 7 lights decided to not fight, all Xehanort would have to do is take her heart along with the 7 princesses and then he has Kingdom Hearts. Also, for those of you who thought this was made up by fans then look at 3D's secret ending and Yin sid says this. Plus, most likely that's one of the reasons why Sora will choose to fight because it involves Kairi and I'm sure if Sora decided to fight them everyone else would as well. So since Kairi will be a target it makes since that she will get a new outfit and has gone under training with Yin sid.  The thing I'm not sure about is if she is training to become a master or not because Yin sid is so focused on have only masters fight Xehanort/the 13 darknesses. I really hope they expand on Kairi in kh3 and that she is playable for once since she is the only person out of all of the trios that hasn't been playable yet.

I mean it's not exactly a brand new revelation. It's been pretty clearly shown that Kairi will have a bigger role in Kingdom Hearts III. Plus I'd rather not have Kairi's development revolve around her being protected by Sora and the others. She needs to come into her own character and advocate her protection. At least this way it will add more depth to her character, something she sorely lacks.

I'd say that because of the circumstances her role will be greatly expanded upon. And yes, the fact that she could now count as both a Princess and a Guardian of Light would make her a prime target no matter what. I feel that Yen Sid sensed this and figured that since she's the only one who had the potential to defend herself that it would be best to train her to become a Keyblade Master as well. It would be great to see Kairi with a more proactive role this time around, it'll allow us to learn about her character even more, as so far we've mostly been seeing it through Sora's eyes. And yeah, I'm also in that bandwagon of people hoping to see a scenario where Kairi and Lea are training/on a mission together, I just think that would be such an interesting pair up, you know, once you get past the awkwardness of past kidnappings...X3"

Kairi is well overdue for some development. I'm glad they seem to be taking her down the path of not being a "damsel in distress". It'll be cool to see what they do with her from here. She'll more than likely finally get the layers she deserves. We also need more Sora, Riku, Kairi interactions. Basically anything to give her more screentime/development.

Also, I don't know if she's training to become a master or not, to me it seems like basic training for now. You know, enough training so she can hold her own.

EDIT: I saw Hero of Light XIV above mention Kairi and Lea training together and/or going on a mission. I like the idea, it'd be a great way to see how Kairi interacts with other people, rather than just Sora and Riku.

I simultaneously agree and disagree with some of the statements here. I'll also be talking about what I think about Kairi having a bigger role. This will be a long post, sorry xD

First off, a defence of some of the things said here. You don't have to agree with it, but this is my personal opinion:

In KH1 she was comatose because of the heart. Ven and Sora have gone through basically the exact same thing since then, so I think it's not fair to call her useless because of that. In fact after she woke up Kairi was proactive and, at least, strong-willed in KH1

In spoilers to save space

In this scene, the way they decided to animate her clearly shows she's conflicted about leaving Riku behind. Her stance seems to suggest she wants to fight, but knows she can't

We later see her be determined again when she rescues Sora

This scene is, in my opinion, one of the best for Kairi's character, and a lot about her is learned in it.

I agree she needs to be shown interacting with other characters more(and in a better way), it's not like ''she never has been'' though, in KH2, she was shown interacting with other characters, Selphie, Axel, Pluto, Hayner, Pence & Olette, Standing up against Saix, and trying to hold mickey back from the explosion, it's a small moment, but it's still there. She refused to listen to Axel, which is the smart thing to do.

Also, if it wasn't for Kairi, Riku would have left in his emo ''I can't let sora and kairi see me like dis'' mode

UVGsr6A.png

This clearly touched Riku, seeing that they care about him, regardless of him looking like Ansem. He says this in DDD:

''True friends see you for who you are, no matter the face you wear''

Which is beautiful ;u;

She wanted to find Sora and Riku on her own, because she was sick of standing around.

Did she need help? Yes and that doesn't have to be a bad thing. Every main character in this series has needed some form of help from their friends. She blamed herself(''Sora's in danger, because of me?'' She know she's being used as bait), but got out, and then as soon as she did get out she was proactive

gpaIGbg.png

And the whole reason she got caught at all? was because she was trying to find her life-long friends in the enemy stronghold before she had a weapon. She clearly cares more about Riku and Sora than her own safety, which I actually think is one of her strong points and something I'd find admirable about someone in real life. Risking yourself for others.

If you speak to Kairi in KH2 one of the things she says is how she is tired of waiting behind and wants to fight. I'm hoping that in KH3 they finally do her justice and she's able to finally shine  :)

um1FX0M.png

The problem, I think, is how her character has been presented so far, fans haven't read all the official stuff or Nomura interviews about her and therefore know little of, at least, the character she's intended to be, and take cutscenes at face-value. Being someone who's actually paid attention to these things, while I agree she lacks character development, most of the crap the fandom gives her is completely unfounded. Some of it is a valid opinion but other things are literally just grabbed out of thin air simply because they personally don't like the character.

However, I agree she does have little development so far and I hope they fix this. One of the disappointing and lazy reasons is the writing team for the kingdom hearts series has been noted to downplay her roles in KH2, Re: coded and DDD. Particularly the last two.

In the game files for DDD and early trailer it's implied kairi has a larger role than she got. Kairi was also on the original artwork for coded, and had a much bigger role in that game, having a digital form like Riku, but they then erased every trace of her not only from the game but the artwork leaving a gap in it.

The point of me bringing this bit up, is it worries me, because I fear that they could downplay her role again in KH3.

My hopes are high, though, as they at least seem not to be doing that this time. Their reason was being unable to find a way to write her into the story of DDD and Coded, and with KH3 being a new start in the series, I hope this means it won't happen anymore.

The original post is a bit odd to me, since you don't need the fact she's a princess of heart to know she will probably have a bigger role in KH3, it's downright implied:

As a fan of Kairi, this excites me and I'm happy to see that the very first original female character in the series, and member of the DI trio, is finally getting some more screentime. I'm also excited to see her fighting style and how they have her interact with the others. I hope she gets some well deserved development in KH3  :)

Some people didn't know this actually, well the princess part like I said above. I agree with what you said and she might feel a little bit guilty about the fact that she is putting her friends in a corner.

Edit: Worded things a bit better, added stuff

I feel like the KH suffers from the Naruto effect a lot. Comparatively Sakura hasn't done as much as the others and is leagues behind and she is a main character and then she is hatted on, I feel that this is the case with Sora, Riku, and Kairi  but not as much. Kairi has shown she has what it takes, but compared to what Sora and Riku have under their belt and they are also main characters, that's where the dislike towards Kairi comes in and how it seems like she is portrayed. In KH3 I hope the break this thing that they are doing with her and grow her as a MAIN character more because they have a nice setup to do so in KH3. Plus, I hope that, if they do do it, that it stays that way and doesn't do what Naruto has done again and downgrade her after she has had a shining moment (a.k.a Sakura vs 100 puppets)

"The original post is a bit odd to me, since you don't need the fact she's a princess of heart to know she will probably have a bigger role in KH3, it's downright"

Well they also showed Doland and Gooby and I don't think they will have a role the will heavily impact KH3. I was saying the fact this she will most likely be both puts everyone in a corner and shows that the ball is in Xehanort's court, plus not everyone knew that Xehanort would target the 7 princesses to create KH if the 7 Lights didn't fight.

Huh, didn't know that...interesting.

Wait, there was stuff for Kairi in DDD's game files?

Wait, there was stuff for Kairi in DDD's game files?

Apparently, yeah. In the unseen trailer for KHDDD, Kairi was featured on the island with Sora, and then a little after the game came out, here on KH13 there was a news post about someone finding files relating to Kairi potentially have been playable in it along with Riku and Sora.

Thing is in DDD, it does makes sense why they changed it, since it's Sora and Riku's exam, but in coded?? They even wiped her from the art, which makes the whole composition of it uneven. It also makes plot holes, like Data Namine being there without a Data Kairi, despite Data Roxas apparently needing Data Sora to exist. The story of coded could of been more interesting than what we got. Instead Kairi's erased role in coded is chalked up to Namine messing with memories, despite Xion appearing and other things that make that werid. Just lazy writing basically. This makes me a bit worried  :/

Another KH fan wrote a similar article detailing the same kind of things: http://www.khinsider.com/editorials/kairi-the-true-forgotten-girl-in-kingdom-hearts-3275

I'm pretty sure that Kairi's going to have some pretty good character development in Kingdom Hearts III, and I'm sure she's gonna kick ass as a Keyblade Wielder! I have full confidence that she'll shine in this game, and she's going to show Sora and the others that she can get things done too! :3

Kairi, you rock! :D

I'd like to play as her. I don't want her to be an Aqua clone though, she should be her own person. Also, in the keyblade war I think she should fight against Vanitas or even Master Xehanort. Xehanort's actions have prevented Kairi from being with her 2 best friends so she has a good reason to hate him.

Honestly I'm pretty neutral about Kairi. But I'd really like for there to be a chance for us to know more about Kairi, her internal struggles, how has the previous events really affect her and such. I also hope for character development cause I believe that she could be a potentially strong character personality wise. And instead of her always being saved by Sora, maybe this time, she could be the one to save Sora in the final battle.

Technically she kind of did save Sora in KH1.

Technically she kind of did save Sora in KH1.

Yeah, but I mean I want her to fight to save Sora too. Example: While Sora is caught off guard in the middle of a battle, an enemy tries to land a fatal hit but right before they attack, Kairi will jump in and fight off the enemy while Sora is left in awe and Kairi would say something awesome like "Sora you sleepyhead, pay attention!" Or something like that
