KHX's ending spoiler policy - discussion

Posted

Hey everyone.

So on some forms of social media, such as Twitter, many people have said that they would not like to be spoiled for KHX's ending before the release of Back Cover. I know KH13 will be the same way, as people prefer to experience the story for themselves without knowing what it's about. I think we should create a spoiler policy so our users don't run into unintentional (or some even intentional) spoilers for KHX's ending.

What should some of these guidelines be? What should the mods prohibit from people posting about out in the open? Most importantly, how long should this policy last?

I guess the usual, no spoiler in status updates and in topic titles. Also when a topic has any spoiler the title should look like this: "

... ".

I'm pretty sure we already have some sort of spoiler policy in place. Like F dawg said, use spoiler tags and give other warnings as well.

If necessary we could restrict anything that's considered a massive spoiler, like the end of the story.

As for time period, I'd say about a week or so. Should give people plenty of time to catch up.

It's not that people can't catch up, it's that people want to wait till Back Cover so they can experience the story for themselves.

Also, we always have spoiler policies for new game releases and of the like: http://kh13.com/forum/topic/80001-kingdom-hearts-hd-25-remix-spoiler-policy/

I don't mind the Chi Spoilers. Like i said in another forum we can discuss about the game's story as long if you add the Spoiler Tags.

Then we can have the spoiler policy hold until December.

As for the actual policy, we could follow that and modify it to suit Chi.

I was on that same path, but I'd like to make sure we have the timetable set in stone and what type of material we should state should be held to deep spoilers.

But Back Cover is telling a different side of the story than X. So I don't think you have to watch Back Cover before, actually I think it's better to know the X story before watching the movie.

So December is a bit long imo.

Back Cover tells the same story from the Foreteller's perspective, that is all. They created Back Cover so we can get the story of KHX, since it was Japan only.

But it's different. To get a full picture you need to see both, and it doesn't really matter which one you pick first.

But if you guys think waiting till December is better I won't complain xD

I don't think so. Square may be cruel, but I don't think they'd keep something canon from us. Nomura and Yasue stated that it's their goal for fans to experience all stories, so I think Back Cover gives fans about the same amount of story as KHX.

I'm sure you get the most important parts out of Back Cover, but not all. And that's why they localized Unchained X. I'm just saying it doesn't really matter which one you watch/play first, since both have the same core elements, story-wise.

I think that unless Jake is proven wrong about Back Cover, we should make that spoiler policy last until the end of December or so.

If people want to wait for the release of 2.8, we should put the policy in place until the game is released. Less people get mad this way.

Since the story is out now, we should really get the policy out. If the mods can co-ordinate with Lea and help push this out, that'd be great!

Well we are still waiting on what Daniel wants concerning this tbh and we also feel we should've taken a public poll to see how members think and feel. IMHO this should've been planned and done way more ahead of time than the day before new content was released.

He said he would like the community and staff to decide all of it. :) - Yeah I agree, nobody really thought about a spoiler policy though. If it wasn't for me, the concern would've never shown up. Which is why we should get it through. Also yes, we should conduct a poll. Would you like me to do that or no?

Well then you should've thought of it sooner :P (You get the news before we do  :P)  But yeah go ahead and do it and we'll see what members say.

I didn't really think many people would've cared tbh, considering it was KHX and nobody cared much till they saw Xehanort's Keyblade lol. But yeah, I'll get on it.

I didn't get as many votes as I'd like, but these are the results: http://kh13.com/forum/topic/99657-when-do-you-think-our-kingdom-hearts-χchi-ending-spoiler-policy-should-end/

So my proposal is that the mods set a policy till mid-September or so, and then the mods can still watch out for major spoilers till BC releases, but more lenient on spoilers. What do you guys think?

I agree with a mid-September end date, even though the majority on the poll said to end it in December, I feel that's far too long for something like this. We need a concrete date though, so I'd say September 15th (if anyone wants to suggest earlier go ahead).

As for what should be considered spoilers I think it should just be anything in the Final Episode and the upcoming Epilogue (I believe that's releasing this week?)

September 15 sounds good. As for what can't be spoiled it's what you said. I can't think of anything else really.

I agree with this word for word.

I was thinking around whenever TGS ends (which I have no clue when, I'll look it up). If anything, that's a good baseline to go by.

Looks like TGS runs from Sept 15-16 (Business days) and then 17-18 (Public days) I'm fine with any of those, since it's all in the same time frame, as long as we're not making it too long we should be good.

But if we're going to do this we need to decide on a date and get this out fast, because half of what the spoiler policy is going to cover is already out and people are discussing it freely, and the other half is releasing in a few days.

If we are still deciding on a date, Sep 19th would have to be the latest due to TGS. Though the 18th should be fine.
