Nomura talks Kingdom Hearts 3D & unannounced title in May 10 issue of Famitsu Weekly: confirms KH3D demo in North America

The May 10, 2012 issue of Famitsu Weekly magazine has included an on article on Kingdom Hearts, containing an interview with the director of the series, Tetsuya Nomura. Here, Nomura discusses both Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance] and a future, currently unannounced title in the Kingdom Hearts series. He also confirms a North American demo for Kingdom Hearts 3D!

sqexgal has completely translated this interview, and you can read this translation below. The full version of the interview contains strong spoilers for Kingdom Hearts 3D, and can be read here. For a spoiler-free version, keep reading.

— Speaking of the previous titles, about when do you start thinking of the ‘next title’?

Nomura: It’s a gradual process. When Kingdom Hearts was in production, I was considering ideas for Kingdom Hearts II and Chain of Memories. And when those two were in production, I was thinking of ideas for the next three, 358/2 Days, Coded, and Birth by Sleep.

— Were you thinking of KH3D when those 3 titles were in production?

Nomura: KH3D was put together relatively quickly, I was still concepting the story when I brought it to the table.

— What about in the secret movie of Birth by Sleep Final Mix…?

Nomura: Well… (Laughs.) Now that you mention it, that secret movie was referred to as “A fragmentary passage”, meaning bits and pieces of something whole. A story connected to Kingdom Hearts exists out of that, but I don’t know whether or not it’ll be told hereafter.

— The secret message and secret movie of KH3D were loaded with things to wonder about. Is it finally time for KH3?

Nomura: I’ll leave that up to everyone’s imagination. Though, it might be a curve ball. (Laughs.)

— Lastly, a message for our readers.

Nomura: We’ve decided to distribute a KH3D demo in North America as well as Japan. You can play part of Sora’s scenario in Traverse Town. So if your friends haven’t played it yet, you can recommend it to them. And of course, give the co-op mini game Flick Rush a try. Also, an unannounced title is being prepared as well, though it’s something lighter. There are still songs continuing to be distributed for Theartrhythm Final Fantasy so you can look forward to that as well.

I'm done.

Lightweight could be another Japanese mobile social game thingy, like.... Kingdom Hearts Mobile....

HD Collections seem rather big of an announcement to be considered "lightweight" but what do I know, I'm just being a negative nancy over here xD

Console. I still say console. Nomura is pretty much done with mobile games. Perhaps a "lightweight" story, or a "lightweight" plot? Something that doesn't involve Sora having to save the universe....again.

You have really good point. :) I hope it comes to that!!

Perhaps when Nomura says "lightweight" he means plot wise. Let's face it folks, the last few games (Days, BBS, KH3D) have been pretty heavy and rather depressing. I firmly believe something "lightweight" is in order...let's bring back the magic that the first title had. :3

Yep. I think Kairi should fight. She should, ya know?

I wonder why he never talk straight >.< it's always the same answers every freaking interview!! :( I understand the confidentiality about unannounce games but still.. at least give us some legit answers lol

Also,

will this new title be KH related? It doesn't say specifically...?

I think it's more he's not exactly sure where he's going with the series either.

Hopefully, the whole "HD collection" thing will mean the games we're gonna get are localized Final Mixes rather than the older versions.

Surely, with an "original trilogy HD", Europe won't be screwed with Re:Chain Of Memories this time around. "Sony wants new content to justify a re-release", indeed.

Then again, I don't own a PS3, but given I own a PS2 just because of KH1 and KH2 alone...

I hope it's a rhythm game! That's lightweight, right? xD

That would actually be pretty cool!:) But they HAVE to make KH3 first.

one other thing for a fastball could be mickys adventures in the realm of darkness through various consumed worlds, and we have seen in a fragmentary passage when a world was consumed it was taken to the dark realm so that my idea on what it could be. only other unexpected idea i havnt seen yet is riku or mickys story during the events of days

“Since I decided to make KH3D rather suddenly, the story I presented was rushed since it was still being planned.”

Yeah so uh. I'm not saying the story or the game was badly done, it had a crazy unexpected plot twist. But this is the 10th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts we're talking about. Maybe it should have gotten more priority than the 'hastily thrown together' this quote makes it sound like.

Lol, I love your icon SoraKH xD

Well, like Nikolasvanitas said, I like that Nomura acknowledged the complaints of his fans and owned up to any mistakes he had made. All the same, I think we've waited quite a long time for KH3, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that title to be the next.

... And then I remember that KH3 would mean the end of the Xehanort saga, and then I feel a little sad and wonder whether another unnumbered title would really be such a bad thing.

Why sad about having the end of the Xehanort Saga? Nomura said Sora's story wont stop there, and it feels like the end of Xehanort is due, everything so far has led up to this moment and it feels right, I think its time for KH3!

My guess is that the next kh game might not be KH3 but probably a downloadable title for PSN/SEN &/or XBLA

You mean like... KH on iOS?

Even if I don't like the idea, I love the little designs for the characters. The ones in Theatrythm to be exact. EEEEEEEEE-
