Today at SCEJA's 2015 press conference, Square Enix have officially announced Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue for the PlayStation 4, to release in 2016. Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue will lead into Kingdom Hearts III and contains:

 

- Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD

- Kingdom Hearts χ [chi] Back Cover (movie)

- Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep 0.2 -A Fragmentary Passage-

 

Dream Drop Distance HD is a HD remaster of Kingdom Hearts 3D, which originally released in 2012. χ [chi] Back Cover is a HD movie based on Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ, and Birth by Sleep 0.2 is a new story based on the earlier concept of Birth by Sleep -Volume 2-, first teased in the Birth by Sleep Final Mix Secret Movie.

 

This announcement follows a leak earlier in the week about a mysterious game called Kingdom Hearts 2.9. It is unknown if they are one and the same or not.

The official website for the game has launched, and can be accessed here. Square Enix's TGS 2015 website has also been updated with an official page for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. The official Japanese PlayStation website has also updated with Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and can be accessed here. Here's some official information about the games:

 

Originally released in 2012, KINGDOM HEARTS [Dream Drop Distance] HD is a full-HD remastered version of KINGDOM HEARTS 3D [Dream Drop Distance]. Series protagonists Sora and Riku take on the Mark of Mastery exam in preparation for coming threats. The signature action of the KINGDOM HEARTS series has evolved, allowing players to experience faster-paced battles and exploration at a blistering pace.

This newly remastered title also features:

 

· KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage –

o A completely new playable episode that links to the story of KINGDOM HEARTS III, taking place after the storyline of KINGDOM HEARTS Birth by Sleep played from the perspective of Aqua.

 

· KINGDOM HEARTS χ [chi] Back Cover (movie)

o A new HD movie that tells the mysterious story of the Foretellers, connecting the earliest parts of the series’ history, showcased in the upcoming mobile title KINGDOM HEARTS Unchained χ[chi].

 

Lastly, Famitsu.com have revealed that this week's issue of Famitsu Weekly (releasing on September 17) will contain an article on Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. Here's a preview:

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO   x_x  i still got to buy a ps4 been waiting for something of kh to release before buying main while price drops  most likely buying it in December now :P because Christmas  discount !  :D i cant wait to play it already but .... what if they release for japan only first :L then we got to wait again longer x.x *mumbles on*

    No yeah, I'm not saying 2.9 is a real thing, i just think its gonna be the demo nothing inportant just the demo, but you know how in Kingdom Hearts they love to name everything, so tey are gonna call the demo that, but it's not an actual game, just the demo

    You misinterpreted my words! I was thinking that 2.9 might've been a typo!

    Jaja All i know is that i want this and i feel like a little kid just waiting for kh3 !!

    Here is the trailer in full HD . Do you guys think that KH BBS 0.2 will introduce and debut the new game mechanics for Kingdom Hearts 3 if it is a playable option. Would love to hear your guys thoughts on this.

    im just confused because in the leak it mentioned it would be for both ps3 and ps4. maybe they changed their minds? maybe that was a mistake and this is the game mentioned in the leak and they just changed the number for some reason maybe? idk i just think 2.8 is a really random number. there's a very slim chance that 2.9 might be a real thing, but probably not.

    I could gather:

    All the world still hasn't

    Master of Masters - the future something

    Also that future - something

    Now the story of us 6 apprentices that became 5 will be revealed

    Something Future something

     

    Book of prophecies heavily implied as well

     

    This situation with the BBS volume 2 - it's the same one that we were told about back in 2011 when BBS FM came out and everyone went crazy waiting for a game like this for the Vita. Thankfully it's coming out now :D

    I'm so glad my bae, Aqua, can finally have her story told in HD. We have been waiting for almost 10+ years. We can wait a little more for kh3. We want kh3 to be the best game and a excellent ending to the xehanory saga. Come on and take a seat on the patience train.

    Exactly hahaha. Oh god, I still am so hyped. Even though I was expecting a KHx "remake" and BBS V2. But I was expecting those AFTER KH3 not before! This is soooo soooo sooo good. <3

    That naming convention, though. Kingdom Hearts 0.2 and 2.8...

    0.2 + 2.8 = 3.0 = KH3

    KH 2.9 was more logical final road to KH3.

    The most reason why it was not for PS3 is probably of KHX.

    it's actually because of KH 0.2 BBS A Fragmentary Passage. It is running on the engine that kh3 is running on.

    It will be more easier for them to make it same style as BBS.

    They are sure that people will have then a PS4 ready for KH3.
