Kingdom Hearts III trailer analysis: Do the chess pieces represent the lights/darknesses?

To continue on with our trailer analysis series, let's take a look at the chess pieces Young Xehanort and Young Eraqus are using in the

Each piece seems to have a symbol on the top, which we noticed could correspond to characters in the Kingdom Hearts series, more specifically, the seven lights and the thirteen darknesses. Thanks to Tumblr user freeshooterxig, some of these symbols have been depicted with their corresponding characters:

We also noticed that there are duplicates of the "Ansem, Seeker of Darkness" pieces - one to represent Ansem, and the other to possibly represent his Guardian. Also, we found two "Vanitas" pieces, possibly signifying Vanitas and the Vanitas Remnant.

KH13 user, PrinceNoctis, gives his analysis:

Another interesting thing to note is which pieces eliminate each other. It's hard for us to tell, but one move that is certain is the "Sora" piece eliminating one of the "Ansem, Seeker of Darkness"/"Guardian" pieces. If you can make out any other eliminations, let us know!

We would just like to clarify that this is based purely on speculation. However, it seems too perfect in our eyes. So, what do you think of all of this? Can you depict any symbols we missed? Sound off in the comments below!

Ah yes an hourglass he is much more fun to fight.

Did you guys figured out what symbol number3 referer's to?

It's possibly referencing Leopardus, one of the five foretellers from Chi.

I think its more of the events leading up to kingdom hearts 3 because the Saix piece looks more like Axel ( unless he goes to the dark side) and since Luxord is there it kinda make more sense. only thing we can really do is hope that he shows us a trailer or an interview were he shows or states Luxord is returning.

I bet I would prefer to be surprised while I'm playing; I think it's better to not know for sure who the 13 darknesess are to give a more intriguing effect to the game's plot.

Do we know that those two cubes are dice?

Do we know that those two cubes are dice?

Some think that those cubes are dices, while others think they might be the cubes that Xemnas' nobody minions used to fight (that means that the cubes represent Xemnas).

wouldnt you guys say the crossed swords are xemnas's blades and the cubes are dice? unless we get a big zoom in so we can see if they have circles on them....

It makes more sense than Luxord at any rate ;)

I want to think that those things are dices because we already know that Xemnas is part of the Organization, and if those are dices, it means that Luxord is in it too. Considering that Luxord's entrance in Port Royal was incredible and the little amount of importance this character has in the main plot just don't fit well; I really want to see Luxord in again.

I already stated in an older post why I thought that Luxord could be in the True Organization XIII, but I can still give another reason, and that reason is that Luxord is Nomura's favourite Organization character (or so I've been told), so he's not going to let him just dissapear from the KH plot that easily.

Does no one notice the obvious? The piece for Sora and the piece for Master Xehanort are DIRECTLY across from each other at the end of the trailer after YMX says "oh I hope so".

I hope so maybe we'll get some stories on the characters that didn't get one in bbs that would be nice Nomura

Apparently, Luxord is able to time travel despite this ability not being explicitly used. Maybe Xehanort wanted him because he was able to time travel.

It hasn't really been confirmed that he can time travel. Yes, his elemental power was time, but it has never been stated he can time travel.

Technically, anyone can if they leave they're body behind, but we don't have nay proof that Luxord has done this.

Personally I think it's Luxord too (I was the first to say it! ) but after reading everyone else's post I've been having doubts. Only time will tell...

Luxord does need to come back, as does Demyx.

Those 2 had the least development out of all the original Org. members---and it was a shame, too, because their personalities and powers were made of win.

With the new KH2.8 trailer, did we get confirmation/hints that the Leopardos Foreteller is the traitor...or that he's not and it's actually the Anguis Foreteller. Which one is the truth, and which one is the lie??? We'll know soon :)
