If I remember correctly, during the first phase in the battle he uses No Name and during the second phase he uses the blades. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I kinda think he only opened a barrier around the Land of Departure because Eraqus having control over all travel between the worlds seems kinda weird and random.
