Huh, so for the first Christmas in a few years some of our gifts might actually be SURPRISES. Nice change of pace from just asking what we want, getting it, and having pretty much nothing to do on the holiday.

I guess I can see those similarities on the surface, but deep down they're not all that similar at all; Cloud was far from the first thing I thought of when Roxas appeared (well, except maybe the hair... but I associate Cloud more with his spiky unicorn 'do, anyway.)

Yeah, a little, but not by that much. Maybe my expectations were too high because Steve Burton can emote when he puts his mind to it. Maybe I also shouldn't judge so harshly against a single line. 'Sides, FF titles generally don't have stellar voice acting to begin with. Cloud's not really that cold, though. He starts off pretty apathetic, but that only lasts for maybe the first twenty minutes of the game. Then Cloud starts caring first for his teammates and then the world at large. Serious, yes, but not cold. He's even a little goofy at times. Steve Burton can emote when he wants to, but like you said, that's usually only when Cloud's angry. I was just hoping that voice acting oomph could be put into other emotions.

I didn't notice that until you pointed it out, but yeah Barret's actually kind of a hothead in the original.
Yeah, I always thought Cloud was pretty wiry. If anything I thought he looked MORE muscular than he did in the original.
You might as well get the port. The original and the remake despite following the same storyline look like they'll be two completely separate games.
He flexes his muscles, which produces so much power that he can weaponize it.
It feels like Steve Burton as Cloud still can't emote, but... holy crap this actually looks really really cool. Not super duper ultra hyped for it, but I get the feeling I'll be much more excited for it closer to whenever its release date is.
Not to mention how they've run FFVII into the ground so much that I think a lot of people forget what made it cool to begin with... including its creators. I hear it's becoming kind of a joke that Cloud's Smash Bro's trailer makes it seem like Nintendo knows the game and character more than the guys who made it. I'm the kind of person who generally assumes the creators know best, so for me to kind of agree with that joke really says a lot. It would be nice if they could give other FFs in the series some attention. No single FF represents the whole series, after all, so even though VII is my favorite, I also love other games in the series. More on topic, I don't feel good calling anything overrated. It doesn't even matter whether or not I actually like the game in question -- it's not a judgement call I feel like I have the right to make, because who gets to decide what deserves its popularity or not? Even that FFVII example above has more to do with the direction the games and characters have been taking over how much praise it gets. Besides, more often than not 'overrated' is just a buzz word people throw around when things they don't like get attention. It's lost its meaning.
