You're basically answering your own question by providing the only two possible theories. Were you looking for something more? Or just debating which theory is more plausible? If that's the case, I'd probably go with what Flaming Lea suggested.

I couldn't agree more. I had a friend who came out to me a while back. Didn't faze me in the least. Still the same person, just a different sexual preference. And that's really no big deal.

I don't recall ever saying Lea would become a vessel...

Master Xehanort seemed to give a creepy but knowing smile when Lea first appeared during the rescue scene, so I think there's more to Lea wielding a Keyblade than what meets the eye.
