Who knows where this show even is going so my mind could change but I dont agree on this being a disservice of green lantern or anything so far.

I get every feeling you are having here and in general I agree that there have been adaptions that have followed this formula. It took decades for superman to get something that resembles him on the big screen since the Returns movie so believe me I get it. But I don't think this is a show that follows this pattern. By the second episode we already have [spoiler]Hal suited up, gone to space and faced Sinestro. John's subplot with the bird is also just a very comic book element of him constantly being full of will[/spoiler]. Don't get me wrong, this show is grounded, but it's not grounded in the sense that it's embarrassed of being based on a comic book. If anything it highlights it more because they aren't making fun of the suits or the constructs. It's just part of their daily life.
