For me it's a little bit of everything.  I'm a huge Mario fan, though I went with the sound effects because I do love how they've retained them from the original titles, for the most part.  The sounds are always so cheery and uplifting, and bring me back to my golden years of childhood.  I also am a huge fan of the gameplay and the characters, so it's a difficult decision to make.

(But in a seriousness, I love everything about it! Mario himself didn't change much and I just love that about Mario. He's the same happy hero everyone loves. The characters, art, music everything and everyone around him fits just right. )

Super Mario Sunshine

For me it's the memories that are made from them. I have a ton of good ones

Mario's games are good but not my cup of tea. I do like the RPGs though, and since Shimomura is the composer of most of them, that's one of the best things.

What makes Mario games so great :
- Great care given to movement, game-feel, and many other details such as music and design.
- Constant variations of gameplay, out and in-game (each game is different, and in each (big) game, every situation you encounter is very different)

Constantly wonder how Peach can fight with a frying pan in Smash Bros but is practically defenseless against Bowser.
