have you read the harry potter books? I dont really understand what you are searching for exactly (well I do but I dont have anything in mind right now )

I would tell you to read the tunnels saga. There are 5 books from this novel. I have read the first 3 and i found them fantastic.
From Wikipedia: was written by Roderick Gordon.

If you're looking for dark, but not grim-dark, I'd recommend The Chronicles of Prydain.

It takes the classic fantasy adventure and just makes it real. It's punishing for the main characters. Heck, the lesson that the main character Taran learns in the first two books (The Book of Three and The Black Cauldron, respectively) is that war is not fun and games, people die and don't come back, and that some adventures aren't fun.

Well, books that are a great read to me are The Lord Of The Rings! It's an amazing trilogy of books, and right now, I was reading through all of them again, and now I'm reading Return Of The King! The awesome thing about these novels is that they set you in this struggle of good versus evil, and you get to see how this struggle is handled through the perspective of different characters, and you really get a feel for how dire the situation is, and well, I could say that these books are a fantasy kind of dark, but maybe not dark dark. At least I could say its appropriately dark for your tastes, but there are also bits where the stories of these novels have very fantastical scenes, so maybe those books would be to your liking!

Ah, there's also Charlotte's Web! I think that would be another book you'd like! If you've watched the film, then you know that it has a tone similar to Pooh's Grand Adventure, in the sense that you have these lovable characters, but at the same time there's this dark undertone in regards to Wilbur the pig's fate of being killed to be eaten at Christmas. So maybe that's another novel I think you'd be interested in!

I would also recommend the Throne Of Glass series! I've read two of the six books in this series(Throne Of Glass and Crown Of Midnight), and they have been amazing so far! But I think that the tone of these books may be a tad bit too dark, at least in my opinion, but maybe you'd think otherwise! There are some funny moments mixed into the story, so perhaps you'd find it to your liking! I know that I love this series so far!

So yeah, hope this helps! :3

There's a quite decent series by James Patterson you might like; Maximum Ride. It's about these teenagers who are part bird, and used to be laboratory subjects under experimentation. It's among the darker side of things, but certainly not too dark!

I will forever enjoy the Animorphs books, by K.A. Applegate! If you like animals and science-fiction, then I highly recommend you give these books a read!  These kids, with advanced alien bio-technology, can turn into any animal they touch. The good and bad alien species are very interesting too. The Hork-Bajir (fearsome looking reptilians but not dangerous and eat tree bark by nature) and the Andalites (blue and tan centaur aliens that created that bio-technology) have been my favorites. Towards the end it gets realistically dark, such as how perpetual war badly affects soldiers... I didn't like how it ended on such a cliffhanger, but I've reread the entire series at least twice.

There's this cute fantasy adventure novel by Tad Williams, that has primarily cat characters in it. I thought it was adorable. It's titled Tailchaser's Song. It's about this ordinary cat who goes on a journey to search for his lady cat-friend. It's a tad lighter than the two series I've mentioned. Very good. I'll want to read this book again someday.
