Nomura originally wanted to have it longer, but he was worried about it being too long for some people, but he also didn't want it too short and have no character interactions. So he opted for somewhere in the middle, but now there are potential ideas to extend it.

They have to rewrite terra. Just let him die and throw him into the trashcan

ofc. Extended scenes would be most likely, as the FMs did have extensions to existing scens already

For exaple, 2FM, during the amored xemnas boss battle, a new scene was added where Sora turns to Riku and goes

That was an extended scene, technically, because it's during the transition cutscene from the dragon to the armored fight
