I think that's objectively false

They're the original trio

Not for me, they saved my ass too many times during crit

And they've always been shifted to the side

From a plot perspective, they did the most in KH3, and for all the games faults I can't include Donald and Goofy as one of them

I think having the option to switch out party members if five is too small isn't a bad idea, if that's what you mean
