KH1 did the destiny hero justice in terms of explaining their bond. Sora and Riku's rivalry, what each character's traits were. The way they shared the same dream but thought about it differently. Kairi's feelings for Sora, how well Riku knows Sora. Then you get all the scenes with Kairi at the end that solidify how close these children are to each other. Riku's jealously makes sense, he's a child who has always viewed Sora as a rival and in some way hated Sora for the way things just go for him.

I agree the Twilight Trio were good too but you don't need to have a whole game of cutscenes showing them together to show how good the bonds these friends had. Most of it is experienced through gameplay at the start.
