--Terrible story. (Cue "You just didn't understand it!") The overall plot is not difficult. It turns out at the end to be a super generic "I want to kill all humans, because humans cause the evil." You could skip every other game and the only things you wouldn't understand are the individual motivations of the lower ranking Organization members and why there are five Xehanorts. Neither of those things are actually important to the main plot. Even if you remember Baddie McEvilPants #6's name (which I don't), why he decided to be evil doesn't really matter considering he only shows up for 30 seconds in the middle of a Disney Movie to confuse Sora, then dies in the last world. You could delete Xehanort (plus all of the convoluted BS necessary for there to be five of him) from the script entirely, replace him with Darth Vader, change the X-Blade to need 9 pieces instead of 13, and the overall plot would be exactly the same. The master plan of the Big Bad is to just try the same plan as KH2 a second time.

Although I half agree, in that the plot of KH3 is really simple. It can easily be someone's first KH game and they'd get it well enough

Having a simple plot isn't a bad thing at all Ofc, I think KH1 was quite successful with its one, however with all the set up by BBS and so on KH3 definitely needed to go all out in terms of plot.

Something like in the veins of KH1 and 2. Yes, KH3's plot was setup from the side games but that doesn't mean it needs to be like them. If KH3 had ps2 level graphics it could fit on the psp easy peasy. I'm not sure I can say the same for KH2, considering BBS had content cut because of the psp's limitations and is a fairly short game.

It would have been easily possible to fit in every single hanging plot thread into this game, there were no limits with the ps4. But I guess Nomura is so used to KH being on handhelds he automatically reigned himself in.

At first when people would talk about how Olympus feels differently to the rest of the game I would just nod and accept the wisdom of people wiser than me, but now I really get it. Olympus totally feels more in the vein of the numbered titles

If all worlds were as fleshed out as Olympus I think we'd be much kinder to the game

On balance KH3 feels a little barren

Monstropolis and Arendelle are probably the worst examples of this
