I thought the point of finding shiny's was due to how improbable they are so I'm not surprised they've changed that

last gen shiny probability was 0.0244140625%, double of the original one

then once you find one you can use it to breed other species more easily

that's the legit way

so maybe you can find a shiny pokemon and breed it with your starter to get a shiny version

if there is still the wild pokemon calling for help it can help catch shiny too apparently
