But if it's melted, it's nice and runny
But it also implies that its hot
Meaning it's melting your ps4

It spread on bread smoothly and is generally easy to cut through if just refrigerated and not frozen.

Maybe margarine or spread works as a a better analogy.

It's just that butter is the term use in the old phrase and it rolls of the tongue better.
