I think that it’s vanitas that forced him to do that because in remind they proved us that vanitas exist in ventus for a very very long time and that Xehanort only extracted him out of ventus

I’m not quite convinced it’s vanitas tbh.
perhaps it was some for of vanitas before he ended up being the vanitas we know him in BBS. but. I’m not completely convinced yet.

Especially since they made it a point to say that darkness likes to hide in the cracks of a pure heart.
