Keyblade war happens, they almost die but Ephemer and Skuld came back for them and presumably saved them.

And took them to the data world with the other dandelions.

I had a thought: what if Vanitas was originally one of the human-shaped shadow figures we see in Union X which used Ventus' darkness as an ark to sustain himself but gained a heart of his own once Xehanort brought him out? It gets me thinking because we may well see darknesses from KHUX gain their own hearts and take on forms which are similar to the characters we know while being their own people, much like certain former Nobodies and replicas have done. It wouldn't surprise me if light could take on human form the way darkness can either and do the same. It'd make sense.
We already have humanoid Nobodies which are from the realm between so why can't they have counterparts from the realm of light and the realm of darkness? It could be said that Ansem Seeker of Darkness might have been a possible humaoid Heartless counterpart in that respect, not solely because of being half of Xehanort. After all, the lesser Heartless - the purebloods - have their realm between counterparts in the shape of the lesser Nobodies: dusks. What if they had lesser counterparts in the realm of light? So much potential here.

If the Darkness beings are truly the MoM's opposing threat, then I can imagine plenty of others like Vanitas. They could also appear like the Inferno in Ventus, so anything's possible.

All I want to know is what the Master of Masters is trying to accomplish.
