KH3 is stronger gameplay wise, but KH2 is a little better story wise imo

are you forgetting about Melody of Memory

the story of kh2 is fine, but the directing(character interactions, scene direction, general tone) is one of the hardest to sit through imo

It is a decidedly unpopular opinion, but for me if we're ranking the KH games by just gameplay KH1 and KH3 would both be at the bottom alongside Melody of Memory, the Union Cross saga, and Dark Road. 

what reason may I ask? That's a bold opinion but I would definitely want to hear your reasoning behind it

In the case of KH1 I feel like it is the game with the most genuinely "dated" gameplay. Not necessarily in the sense that the gameplay itself is bad and can't work well, but more so in that even with the updated options for the camera in the updated releases of KH1 the camera simply does not interact with the gameplay well and make for a fun experience. It severely ruins the flow of what could otherwise be great gameplay. For KH3 they gave us a lot of options, but none of the options feel like they're designed to target specific enemy types like they did back in KH2, which for me is in fact a sign of poor gameplay design.

Melody of Memory's gameplay is fine, but rhythm games aren't really my thing; still I'm not judging its gameplay based on if I like the game type in question, more so on the fact that it barely scratches the surface for a good rhythm game from what I've observed and read over the years. It's serviceable for sure, but it's far from being a standard bearer for its game type. The Union Cross Saga and Dark Road are the hardest for me to explain since I've never played them, but just from looking at their excuses for gameplay from an outsider point of view they just don't seem impressive.
