It's a troubling issue tbh

Roxas works as a character because we're shown, not always told how Roxas thinks and develops. The infamous "Who else will I have ice cream with?"  line works in the context because if leaves the player/viewer to connect the dots as to his emotional grasp on concept of friendship. It's like Final Fantasy X's laughing scene, outside of context it doesn't make sense but it's an important step for the characters. Roxas is confronted with the biggest change in his short life yet, losing someone he's close to and it fuels his next development, desperation. Roxas is willing to charge into what is most likely a suicide mission, and fight his way though not only waves of Neoshadows, but Riku as well and won't be talked down by Riku.

358/2 Days works as the development of Roxas as an individual because there isn't a major crisis or specific scheme like in the other games that has to be thwarted. Fighting powerful Heartless Roxas's 9 to 5. His routine involves waking up, getting assigned a mission, completing it, having ice cream and RTCing. Just the fact his day job is literally fighting powerful and sometimes frustrating Heartless while exploring worlds that aren't in major crisis is awesome. Sora may have fought various plots and crises, and he only visits worlds when there's a crisis. Chain of Memories was him revisiting the crises from Kingdom Hearts 1.

An apt quote for Roxas, especially at the end of the Kingdom Hearts 2 prologue, is "rage, rage against the dying of the light". As his world is tumbling down and Roxas is forced to see no way to save himself, he gets notably more aggressive. He completely whales on the computer in the lab of the digital mansion, and even beats Axel (originally this was going to be where Axel was written out), getting some frustrated swings in at the hologram of DiZ. Roxas is at the twilight of his life, and he believes his light will soon extinguish. When he has one last shot at gaining a physical form, fired up by the death of his best friend (pun unintended) he fights valiantly before conceding to Sora.

You want Roxas to get a happy ending because he of all the characters is most deserving. Even when a pawn in another's game he finds happiness only for it to be snatched away due to circumstances outside of his control. His memory, even his very existence a tool in the machinations of the likes of Xemnas and DiZ. His ordeals in Kingdom Hearts 2 and 358/2 Days, which Sora is aware of as of his journey to the Sleeping World That Never Was, more than make him deserving of a happy ending. Roxas never wanted to be special or a chosen one, he always followed what he thought of as normal.

V cast is proof disney did do that

but then KH3 rolls around and

straight up just recreates, shot for shot, scenes from the movies without sora in them.

I like that they brought back the curse because of a heartless made out of the greed of the pirates who took the treasure in the first place

it was more that the greedy hearts ended up turning to darkness and it leads to the creation of the heartless

I think they said that its the hearts of the people who first fought for the treasure a long time ago, like involving cortez and stuff

The pirates now are simply pirates who had the curse before the curse was lifted

like they are the remains of barbossas crew

well Luxord says the heartless for that world is made out of the hearts of the pirates who have already died

their hearts combined into one giant heartless

the pirate that you fight now are remains of barbossas crew, or pirates who luxord convinced to touch the gold

either one of those two

Kingdom Hearts in KH2 is made out of a bunch of human hearts
