I see the point in the whispers but at the same time it's a bit weird.

The entire point of them is to stop people from going against fate

But it's not like most of the party are actively trying to defy fate half the time.

Also I think the remake is an alt timeline. It would help explain the whispers as well.

true !!! It begs to question tho like ... why are things happening that could possibly change the direction the original went.

and yeah alt timeline/universe makes sense ?

like. if the whispers didn’t forcibly drag Aerith away, that whole part after meeting her would have went different o.O

and yet we have parts like

Bigg’s death... where he’s shown injured at the end but not dead like he should be. Like. Why are the whispers selectively allowing things

 

It seems like there is a fate and destiny but it's not entirely set in stone which is why The Whispers have to intervene

Well they were in a critical state but they never reappear. I've never read the novel.

 

I expect whoever is alive to still die during the midgar raid, giving them a larger role without changing their fate, also if Jessie is dead that gives even more reason for the other 2 to go back to fighting
