I feel like so often, the problem with these sorts of movies is that they try to ground them and make them realistic and believable. But the original shows were never trying to be that: they were trying to sell toys, and the way to do that was to have things be colorful and a little wacky (with some shows being wackier and some being less so). So while the realism angle might work on a few people overall, in the long run they're just gonna be bad and forgotten stains on the franchises
