It was chasing a 2015 era mobile game trend

Before botw came out which caused the domino effect of genshin the gacha botw clone

Like we now have this just announced today as well

This is even using the same time period inspirations as missing link but with the trends that are popular now

Missing Link was not going to be able to compete at all

The higher ups should have realised that sooner instead of dragging it out, but from what I know of JP corporate culture, they were probably being stubborn old men about it until they were forced to accept it was a waste of money and time

doesn't get much more "stubborn old men" than Square Enix lmao

I imagine the Missing Link team was trying to get things like the gps gameplay to work this whole time and it simply wasn’t all coming together, taking too long to develop, and the plug had to be pulled

I wish Japanese devs weren’t stubborn to the point it’s a detriment. Yeah good things can come out of it, but at a cost. It reminds me of how stubborn the Zelda team was about the arm abilities that things like the story and worldbuilding suffered as a result

MH yeah, Pokemon yeah, Kh has no kind of capture the heartless system its not a pokemon

Like they just cannot let go of their vision until they are forced to sacrifice something

KH is all about visiting these different worlds, the game here was just the antithesis to it

It still crazy to me they havent done a MMO thats F2P with raids on console, they had 2 opportunities yet did mobile
