The closest it's come to the sun was September 10th, and since then, has been very quickly dissolving away, if it hasn't already at this point.

 

What very very very very very very very little threat there was is now gone.

This didn't make any sense at all. The only thing I got was that Earth was aligned with some planet when the Japan Earthquake happened, which isn't a big deal as the earth aligns with other planets all the time.

Actually, if a large enough comet was to hit the Earth, then the dust thrown in the air from the impact would be enough to block out the sun for an extended period of time.

He was discussing how the comet passing by the earth would be enough to block out the sun. At least that's what I think he said.

 

But certainly, if a comet were to actually impact with earth, then we would be royally screwed. A comet impact would be the equivalent of all the nuclear bombs on earth going off at once.
