Mostly traditional ones depending a lot on who I'm talking with, but I use "" "o.o" "o-o" ".-." etc a lot too

Yes, I use the traditional ones all the time! I also love the horizontal ones, of course.

I use them when I'm trying to convey something that can't be expressed well in plain text, such as sarcasm or elation.

Yeah, I sometimes use :'( and to express emotions. By the way, you guys seriously need to add the crying emoticon.

I rarely use them. I usually let David Tennant or Matt Smith let people know how I feel.

 

And besides, there's no emoticon that says "I need a drink". But Christopher Eccleston knows what I feel.

 

I bearly started using emoticons in my typing so I use very basic ones like or :wub: They are fun to use to express emotions.

i basically talk WITH emotions online

I try to avoid them. If I cant convey the right emotion with my words, then emoticons seem like a cheap way to fix it. The limitation of not using emoticons allows me to figure out a better way to express what I mean and in turn improves my writing capability. The only think I need an emoticon for is an evil smirk, which this site lacks.

And then I'm like :angry:

And then I realize I'm using them in this post and I'm like :blink:

And then I see the irony and I'm like

And then I see that I'm still using them and I'm like

And then I sneak away like a :ph34r:

 

In short, no, I don't use emoticons.

Shouldn't there be an option of mixing them? I don't rly have a liking to a certain kind! But oh well either way, I use a lot sometimes

Yep - I use traditional ones.

I personally hate any face that's replaced with a smily-face by a forum or a messenger. I avoid those faces at all costs.

 

Many of my faces have 'kitty' aspects, because... I'm like that. -w-? And I have many varieties of the same face, too...

Notice that some of those were changed from text to pictures by the forum. It means I will never use them here, because I have alternatives.
