Why did they use cards in castle oblivion plot wise?

Posted

I realized that I never completed reverse rebirth on the game boy and went back to it. I started wondering why they used cards. I think it might have been to try and confuse sora to give him a disadvantage against them. He'd have to find the card and use it just to whack them with the keyblade. I can't think of any other reason but if anyone else thinks differently please respond.

Because "Everything in this castle is ruled by cards."

That's about as good an explaination as you're going to get. There is no other explaination given.

That's hardly an explanation. Personally, I think that they were all Yu-Gi-Oh! addicts who needed some new game to play.

Because they can... there is no explanation for it.

Idk I guess it`s a solid way to store memories?

Because they have 3 points at the end and could be used as shurikens. The Organization attempted to kill Sora and Riku with them many times, but they just caught them >:3 (Yep, totally plot correct, I win, give me cookiez)

Like everyone else has said, I guess there isn't much of a clear reason as to why they are there.

If I remember correctly, weren't cards a representation of Sora's memories...same with Riku? That's why when Sora goes into Twilight Town, he's sure he's never been there, but at the same time, feels like he has. Ugh, I'm trying to remember the cutscenes from Re:CoM. But if you look through those cutscenes, it should explain the whole card thing, they do hold a purpose.

Yes they do .Thats why he cant use any magic or attack until he collects them and then he then 'remembers" the attack, magic, etc, etc.

I see. So the cards are soras and Rikus memories that the organization and Ansem unraveled to try and manipulate sora to be the organizations puppet and riku to believe that he had so much darkness in his heart he couldn't see his friends.

They used cards just to piss you off

They used cards just to piss you off

Sounds logical.

tutti frutti. I remember them being the memories of Sora and Riku. But the thing that bugged me the most about that is that Sora potentially learned moves that weren't introduced in KH1/KH1FM. I understand learning to improve, but a good chunk of the moves we haven't seen until BBS/3D.

I don't think there was any real story based reason behind the use of cards. I just think of it as a unique game play element.

Because they needed to find an excuse for Sora to be totally stripped of skills and stats from his previous adventure

I also think there's nothing related to the story behind the cards. They were used just to put all commands on KH in a GBA game, that has less buttons than a ps2 controller.

Its just the castle and the effect it has on those who enter it
