Instruments Represent Characters?

Featured Replies

Good observation. I believe each song created in the KH series is based off a character or characters.

Thats a neat way of looking at things, yes I love the instrumentals in all of the dearly beloveds, but I never made a connection between them and the characters ;p

I never thought of it like that.

I have too much time to think.

If I definitely had a theme song, It would have a lot of flute, and violin; to represent sadness. Then a lot of drums and trumpet, for anger. But some clarinets for happiness.

nice way of descripting it like that. i never thought of that.

You know, now that I think about it... You're right...

she sure is

I'm gonna have to go with no. Xion wasn't thought of in previous KH's, so the harp isn't intentional. The violin was used excessively in all of Shimomura's pieces in BBS, it's not exclusive to Aqua.

Yeah! They definitely tie certain musical themes to different characters with leitmotifs. I've most strongly associated the violin solos with Aqua, like you said, especially in pieces like Dismiss. Pretty much, Yoko Shimomura is my hero. She has all sorts of really cool things like this going on if you pay attention to them. With some pieces, you can almost spoil parts of the plot through listening to what the music is saying, like in the music that plays during Vanitas battles. I agree that the different versions of Dearly Beloved capture the attitudes of their plots and respective characters.

I was listening to all of the Dearly Beloved's today, and I noticed something. In each individual version, there is at least one instrument that seems to be featured, and is played louder than the rest. Do you think that the different instruments each represent the characters?

Here's an example: In the 358/2 Days Version, there seems to be a lot of harp being played, a lot more in that Dearly Beloved than the others. So, wouldn't you think the harp would represent Xion? After all, Days was the only game she was a main character in. And the harp kinda fits her personality, too. Don't get me wrong, they play the harp in the other Dearly Beloved's as well, but you can only hear it slightly. Maybe this could represent Xion being forgotten, but still there in Sora's heart?

Idk, maybe it's just a coincidence, but frankly I think that there is some purpose to choosing the instruments they chose for each game.

What instruments do you think represent each character?

Personally, I think Roxas is the flute because it is in his theme and it is played loudly in all of the games he was in.

I think Aqua is definitely the violin, because look at all of the violin being played during the BBS Version. Plus it's played really sadly, which totally fits her storyline.

Sora is the piano, because it is played in every Dearly Beloved, since he is connected to each game in some way.

Meh, it may just be a coincidence, but what do you think? Any characters that you think would be represented by a specific instrument?

You may very well be right, since this IS Kingdom Hearts after all :].
