Do you consider video games good or bad?

Posted

tutti frutti. I recently had to do a report on video games, and mostly wanted to do a poll to see what others thought about it. On the net I had seen good and bad points, though mostly bad, about video games in general. Though I kind of think that it depends on how people go about playing video games and who they are. Much like a number of things it depends on the person, how they perceive something, among other things that help determine whether something in general is good or bad.

Many games give good messages.

TWEWY is somehow giving a message to always look past your friends negative side (for example, Neku looked past of what Joshua did which was...well I don't want to spoiler)

Pokemon taught me:

Pokemon Blue/Red taught not to be afraid of adventure.

Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal taught to not be afraid of change and always try to surpass your limits

Pokemon Ruby/Saphire/Emerald taught to let nature take it's course and to not disturb it's balance

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum taught me to never force your beliefs, religion and deities to manipulate and control others

Pokemon Black and White taught to hold emotions and to gain peace. Also to accept differences within all beings and live your dream. Also that people can change.

I don't know if it is cannon but that's how it is to me~

Also Kingdom Hearts give a lot of lessons as well.

Well, video games are kinda bad because they keep most kids nowadays indoors and can keep then for wanting to go outside and play with their friends and do other physical stuff. I'll tell you that playing games are good. Just not good when you play then for too long. If you play them for too long it can mess you up mentally and physically because you've been in your house doing notjing but sit there on your couch all day and do nothing except play games all day. Though the good outcome of video games is that they can be a great learning tool at times. TRhere are games to help kids learn and makes things much more fun doe education like Brain Age. So video games can promote good and bad outcomes depending on what games you play and how long you play them. That's why it's never good to be a bum and play games all day every day.

I think that depends on the person and how they use them . Those people dying from playing too much without food, sleep and even getting up to use the bathroom prove this .Others play games in the right manner and it doesnt negatively affect them..

Video games are great, man.

xD You're asking this on a KH site? A gaming site? Most people will say they're good. A better more equal view would be given if you asked this on, say, DA, Twitter, FB, or some other site.

Mmmm...some games are shitty and spread horrible messages like, "Killing people to get what you want is all fine and dandy!" But even those can provide a bonding time with friends. And some games spread beautiful messages of goodness -cough cough- Pokemon KH -cough cough-, but then again people can play those games all day and screw themselves. Sooo, I mean, it depends on HOW you use games and WHAT games you play. ^^ That's like asking, "Are books or movies bad?" There's really no definite solid answer, because it all matters on situation. Overall though? No, they provide a source of entertainment, and are only bad if misused/overused. =)

You're not gonna get an objective view on video games on a gaming site, but whatever. Video games are just one of many tools society created to accomplish something. A knife can be used for their intended purpose to hunt or cut animals or plants, or it can be used to kill someone. Video games can be used for their intended purpose to keep us entertained, or serve as the inspiration for some warped individual's revenge plot. Video games aren't objectively good or bad anymore than a knife or a book is.

Don't judge the tool, judge the one wielding it.

It depends on if the person is easily influenced.

It depends on the person playing, the type of game being played, and the duration of play time. Video games have both good points and bad points. ;)

A game is as good as a person makes it.

Same with anything else in the world.

If a person makes bad choices, it's the person, not the game, or what have you.

It's like, we need food to survive, but if a person bases their life around it, and becomes fat and dies, it's their own fault.

Video games are simply another medium of art and entertainment, in the same fashion of film, books, and music. I would argue there is nothing inherently good or bad about them in a general sense.

Depends on how you play with them.

if you keep rage quitting in that game, it's going to have negative consequences on you.

I think they are good but really it depends whose playing and what they play. ;)
