I looked over my thread about ditching KH HD collections and instead remaking the games to 2012/2013 standards and I realized....I might not have been as clear as I though I was being.

 

I'd would have liked to elaborate on said thread but SOMEBODY locked the damn thing. (Grrr...)

 

So...instead, I wanna break down some things I should have mentioned when I made the thread in the first place, just so I throughly explain myself better.

 

First off, I said it might be a good idea for Sora to have a different voice actor for the KH1 remake. Why? Because time machines don't exist yet, so we can't throw Haley Joel Osment through one and make him sound 14 again. I'm not saying he sucks when he is playing 14-year-old Sora NOW...(in fact his DDD performance sounds really good)...it's just that it's not the same as the cute voice we heard in 2002. So yeah, we get another young kid who knows hoe to read a script and make sure he's as close to 2002 HLO as possible. We might have settle for a female...but hey, fanservice is fanservice.

 

Also....I realize most of you that commented said you'd prefer the HD collection over my remake idea. Well, roll wih me here....putting a new grease of paint on KH1, COM, and KH2 aint gonna do it for me, people. What about Days? What about BBS? What about the other titles that wound up on the opposite side of a console we don't have?!

 

My point is: I want to be able to experience the ENTIRE KH storyline.....on one console. That, my friends is the true motive behind this idea. Normura, you tried your best....but dude, this multi-platform stuff isn't cool anymore. I get it....the KH franchise is art. You try to make every game an experience...a fairy tail, an adventure. But really...I'm not wowed by the fact that you put Days or Coded on a DS...or that BBS is on the PSP. It's interesting to push a console to its fullest, but....why not a PS3? Why not an Xbox 360? Those are the consoles that the majority of your fans WANT to see Kingdom Hearts. Where it started.

 

So, there. That's why I feel that the entire Xehanort Saga needs a remake....to make things right. To let everyone experience the beauty, the majesty, and the greatness of Kingdom Hearts....all over again, so that the magic can be great again, in a new place, in a new time...for the fans.

 

And please...I'm not mad at Normura. The handheld games...I understand. I just want the best for this series and for its fanbase.

You make an interesting point there. True, new generations of gamers need to know what Kingdom Hearts is all about, and I applaud your passion for the games. I'm as passionate of the games as you are my friend. But I'm guessing if they were going to release a Kingdom Hearts Collection for PS3, it would be the exact same games, and nothing would be changed, except of course, for the trophy system, which is something I would like because I'd get 100 percent trophies on the games, lol. So dude, remember, if Square Enix releases Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 for PS3, we'll still hear little Haley Joel's voice, the only thing is, it will have some graphical update. I applaud your opinion though.

No. The only games that need to be remastered are KH1, COM(maybe since KH2 explains its plot), and KH2(and BBS if the FM versions are released overseas) for the new fans that didn't experience the first games. Days(can still be found, plus Square released it in the 10th anniversary box), Coded, and KH3D can be played on the 3DS. So basically you'd need 2 or 3(if BBS isn't remastered) systems to play the games.

 

 

Also, look at how long FF 10 HD remaster is taking. Imagine remaking a whole series such as KH.

I don't know where you got the seeds for your money tree, but I'm part of a majority of people that stink at obtaining those. May I remind you that most people are still financially in a ditch, right now, I am one of those people.

tutti frutti. You do have solid points there, especially about spanning the entire series over different consoles/handhelds which I think is crazy. After experiencing a recap by reading information, storywise, is something that I believe is something that leaves more to be desired. Also, I think that the remakes, if not the re-release, is definitely something that would be good to be released for this generation on gamers, both new and old. If there is a remake, I hope that the gameplay is more focused on KH1, KH2 and BBS.

there never was or will be any point to games being console exclusives unless the company is the developer of the console(or need specific motion hardware) seriously KH dosent need to be console exclusive and it wouldnt take anything away by it being on xbox

As a matter of fact, Rob....I HAVE watched playthroughs of various KH titles. (I think I mentioned this already....maybe at a different topic? Eh.) But really, watching a playthrough isn't the same as actually PLAYING THE GAME, if you haven't already guessed. And yes, I am grateful for that, because they allow me to experience the game when my options are flung out the door. That doesn't mean I wanna spend most of my time watching most of the KH series instead of PLAYING it! 3 consoles, man! D:

 

And why not put Sqeenix to work?! They need to step out of this routine they have where all they do to re-re-re-re-re-release Final F*cking Fantasy and get off their lazy asses. It's not rocket science to put up menus on a screen. KH2 had a map system, and so could Days if they worked at it! It's simple. Move the other stuff to the pause menu. DERP.

The PS3 version of FF13-2 was superior to the Xbox, I doubt square will. They don't like the xbox at all. Because of the disc space they're is so little you can do, I mean like 8gb is like nothing compared to a PS3's 32gb. Plus the xbox version has less frames.

i dont really see that big of a differnce really, either ones fine to me.

 

and something i would like to point out is that kingdom hearts is not final fantasy, a lot of the space with final fantasy would be towards realistic looking graphics in the game. kingdom hearts dosent need that much extra space because the graphics arnt that realistic. and im not going from a PS2 style graphics perspective im saying that for KH3 its probobly going to be the same style of graphics but with more detail in some areas but not nearly as much compared to final fantasy.

 

i highly doubt that disc size would restrict KH3 that much but even if it did than it might work out well in some ways. for instance maybe noruma would drop out a lot of the useless mini-games and only have ones that are really unique, lets be honest most of the mini-games in KH2 sucked, in fact the only ones i enjoyed somewhat were struggle and skateboarding and even those werent the best and i could skateboard around without the mini-game. in fact i was amazed at playing KH3D to see that they finally made a mini-game thats not just some weird dumbed down combat and is actually enjoyable.

 

thats just my 2 cents that we really dont need the extra space from PS3

More disc space= More content and with less, the Xbox will need like 4 disc to play KH3. I highly doubt KH will ever go to xbox because It was born on PS.

People bought the Xbox (A terrible console, IMO) yes. But look at demographics. It's a stereotype, but a casual glance at the shelf of 360 games reveals that it is largely dominated by M rated games, and the most frequently appearing genre is first person shooter. The biggest selling point of the 360 is the online, a thing that KH barely makes use of.

And the 360 simply isn't popular in Japan

It doesn't NEED to be on the PS3, but randomly switching over to Microsoft doesn't make much sense. Really, if all Square cared about was reaching a large audience, they would probably move everything over to the Wii. You know, that console that ran circles around the PS3 and 360?

So, two key points; Square Enix will make their decision based largely on what Japan wants, and the 360 doesn't really fit KH's target demographics (At least not as much as Sony's largely teen rated games, or Nintendo's largely E rated ones)

I'm fairly certain that some extra effort is going into that. It's being made by the main Final Fantasy team, after all.

Also, FFX made use of a lot of prerendered backgrounds, and odds are Square Enix is going to redo all of the CG in higher resolution, and widescreen.

With KH, beyond redoing some prerendered scenes (There are a lot less in KH as a whole than there are in FFX) it would basically boil down to texture upgrades (If they felt like it) and a resolution enhancement, as the game is already fully 3D (And the fact that they reuse many of their models would probably make it even easier)

It'd still take time, and a lot of hard work, but I think FFX is the taller order here.

(oh, and CoM is ridiculously vital, but they might not remake it because of how poorly received it was in terms of critical reviews)

They are NOT firetrucking lazy, and you're an asshole to say that. A remake is easier to make than a fully new game, but Square Enix's remakes tend to go well above and beyond. The PSP remakes have fantastic spritework, well beyond the originals. Often there are lengthy new CGI scenes. A completely new translation is almost always a part of the deal as well. And despite that, they release plenty of new, similarly high quality Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts titles on an almost yearly basis.

You have no clue what you're talking about. Not even a slight one. So maybe before you complain about the combined efforts of hundreds of people, you actually take the chance to firetrucking learn how much work it actually takes?

Don't say 'JUST CHANGE EVERYTHING in Days, DERP.' It's not that firetrucking simple

Why would it sell less if Square Enix kept doing what they're always doing? Yes, many games are released on multiple consoles, but this always comes at an increased production cost, and a near inevitable downgrade in quality and content. And that's for games significantly less complex than a Square RPG.

(Oh, one additional thing. KH1 was published by Sony, so I don't think it can actually go on any other console)

There's a key thing you don't understand here. Realistic graphics aren't what automatically make the filesize huge. It's high quality graphics that do that. a KH is full of high resolution textures and effects.

KH also can't reuse assets all that easily, because of the Disney worlds aspect. And the sheer number of characters in the game add to this.

But really, when it comes down to it, graphical quality isn't as much of a factor as sound quality. Both FF and KH make use of extensive, high quality voice acting.

BUT, that said, FF also tends to have many more prerendered movies, which also take up a lot of space (Especially now, since they're expected to be 1080p)

BUT that said filseize really isn't an issue for remakes, so the360 could still have them. But it could be a problem for KH3, which would lead to a problem if KH3 isn't on the 360, but the remakes are.

• This has nothing to do with Kingdom Hearts anymore: this is about Square Enix's dumbass routine of re-releasing FF 300 times a year. Don't bring Kingdom Hearts anymore.
• Catering? No game developer can cater to anyone. Even if they make a fantastic game....someone is always gonna say that something could have been done better, or look better, or added, or taken out. Besides, I'm not asking for SE to do want I want...I am asking for what every SE fan wants: something OTHER than FF games all day everyday. A new IP or a new sequel to a lesser known franchise. TONS better than what they usually do.

1. How silly of me to bring up KH when you mention HD remakes in a topic about KH remakes. Final Fantasy remakes are fairly infrequent, ultimately. Ports take very little time, so that' irrelevant, adn more often than not, when they remake something, it's for an anniversary. Beyond that, it;s hardly a dumbass technique. It makes them a lot of money, lets new people experience the game, and let's more hardcore fans get a little new content (Or replay it if that's not any option) The fact you don't seem to understand is that Square Enix isn't going 'Hm... should we re-release Final Fantasy IV... or make a new Chrono game?'

When it comes down to it, you're making a problem out of something that doesn't affect you.

2. Funny. Seems like a lot of fans want XIII-3, and remakes. The people who want stuff besides FF have a lot of other options as well; Square Enix is a busy publisher.

You know WHY Square doesn't risk making a new franchise, or reviving an old one? Because not many people are going to want it unless they market the hell out of it.

I don't know if you remember the port of Crhono Trigger for the DS? It was a fairly minor port. No new graphics, and only a little new content. But the point was, when Square Enix released THAT, they said that if it was a success, they would consider continuing the franchise. But it wasn't a success. Nobody bought the port. New fans weren't interesting, and old fans went with 'I've already played it'

And that's the problem. Square Enix isn't in the position to take risks. They're going through a bunch of financial trouble. they need to rely on their big franchises, and built up a degree of wealth. They can't go and take risks right now, certainly not on some obscure franchise from the 90's that probably never got a sequel for a reason.

In short, you're applying what YOU want to the masses, and you need to acknowledge that you are not. As vocal as people like you or NeoGameSpark may be, you are NOT the majority.

3. My problem with the video is that it DOESN'T explain anything. It's a collection of his personal complaints. He ACTS like he's saying something factual, but it's all opinion. And there's no problem with that. I actually found it funny, he made many comments throughout his video about how he expected people get mad over some remark. But those remarks were always the most clear time he was speaking his opinion. The thing that bothered me about the video was the way he complained about stuff without actually thinking about any ramifications it might have. For example, he mentioned NiS and Atlus, and how they gave people what they want; apparently this is obscure games that nobody thought would have an audience in North America. He goes on to say that these companies make peanuts compared to Square. But the reason they make peanuts in the first place is because they sell obscure games that not many people care about.

The complaint about Kingdom hearts (Sorry) 3 not being out yet is getting really tired as well. At this point, Square Enix really should have just called Birth by Sleep KH(Sorry)3 for all the complaints they've gotten.

And I don't see why people think Versus XIII is holding up everything ever. Yes, the game is taking forever to make. Do the games he mention actually correlate to this? No.

And he holds this all together with 'trends of the videogame industry' despite the fact that the things he discusses don't really fit into such.

• You, my friend, were the one who decided to pick on me about the comment I made about Square Enix. YOU changed the conversation, so I had to steer it into a different direction as such.

• This practice you speak of...with Square Enix releasing Final Fantasy games for anniversaries and for hardcore fans and new players....that's fine and dandy. However...when they start porting and re-releasing these games to phones and different consoles? Many times in a year? That's milking a cash cow to me, player. And they do it all the time.

• Majority. Funny. You are right though. There are a majority of people who actually like going through with this stuff. Yeah, they buy the games, they enjoy them. SE makes a lot of money....but this isn't about their wallets. Or the fans wallets. This is about integrity. If every one of SE's fans go through this little routine of buying Final Fantasy titles over and over, to me...it's just fanboyism. My concern is not for them; it's for the people who want to enjoy what SE has to offer but can't because they keep doing the same shtick every year. The REAL majority. This is actually a really good post. At least, I like it

1. I decided to pick on you because of the lack of respect you are giving to a profession that I personally care a lot about, and as such understand fairly well. I'm not going to pretend this isn't partially personal.

 

2.Releasing games on a whole bunch of systems and phones and such? The hope is to reach people who have these things, not to have people re-buy the game over and over. Pretty much everybody has a phone, so as a result, there are going to be people with phones who don't have the other systems the game is available.

I guess it is fundamentally milking, but it's harmless, and gives Square money that in theory lets them fund games you DO want

 

3. I don't really see it as a lack of integrity, but I can see where you're coming from. I'm starting to get confused here though, are you talking about the new Final Fantasy games as well, or just the remakes?

 

4. I was worried I came off overly negative about him. I was honestly expecting worse at the start of the video, but many points he brings up ARE valid, I was simply pointing out the things that bothered me as part of the discussion

6. I think you kind of do. Making old games available costs little and helps keep the company afloat, while proper remakes require a lot more work than you seem to think. But they also don't have an impact on the time it takes to release other, bigger projects. Most FF ports are actually outsourced entirely.

 

7. Being nice to people doesn't make you not unique. It's great to be proud of who you are, but you shouldn't dwell on it. You're only fifteen, you'll change a lot in the next while.

The matter here is that having an opinion doesn't give you the right to insult people you don't know, and a little reservation can go a long way.
