Why is there no love for Atlantica?

Posted

Personally, I thought Atlantica was the greatest world the original Kingdom Hearts offered. It introduced a whole new way of combat and movement, and you really had to think in four directions most of the times. I'm also a huge fan of The Little Mermaid and the characters, especially King Triton.

Which brings me to the question why there has been so little love for Atlantica since the first game.

Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories: Triton makes no appearance, whole story is lame and worst of all, Sora Donald & Goofy do not turn into their aquatic forms.

Re:Chain of Memories: Exact same problem, and also no voice acting (which goes for most of Re:CoM btw)

Kingdom Hearts II: While I love the "Under the Sea" performance from Sora, Ariel, and Sebastian, the rest of it was just lame. Seriously, what the hell?

And since then it never made an appearance again. We've had 365/8 Days, Birth By Sleep, Coded, now Dream Drop Distance, no Atlantica at all, in none of them.

Why is there so little love for this amazing world under the sea?

  • In KH it was okay. They made the controls better in KH2... but then the musical came along, lol. When BBS was announced I hoped to see it again because of Triton's hatred of Keyblades. But no. Cou

If it was more like it was in Kingdom Hearts 1, I would've enjoyed it more in Kingdom Hearts 2, I wasn't a big fan of the singing and dancing

I thought Atlantica was great in the first one. And in the second one, it offered a nice alternative; I mean, there were a lot of worlds in kh2, and you could each of them twice for the main story. I feel like the musical challenges was a nice something different; it made it easy to tell the main story of the Little Mermaid as well as showcase what the Little Mermaid is best known for: it's music. I just have complaints about how they never directly state how Ursula came back. And how stupid Ariel is for trusting Ursula a second time. If it hadn't been a musical, that final boss battle would have been pretty similar to kh1...

The biggest complaint I have though is that Donald killed the last musical number...

I don't know, did Ursula actually die in KH1? Or did she just disappear?

I love you people!!!!

I THINK THE SAME WAY!!!!

I think that if the world was bigger, and more alive, that'd be great. I'd love to go to the city and inside the palace, talk to merfolk and animals, see fishes swimming... I'm dreaming right now!!!!! :3

Wow, what is wrong with you people? Didn't you ever see The Little Mermaid as a kid? Didn't you ever sing along to the amazing songs in it?

Let's talk Atlantica KH1. Yes the controls were difficult to get used to, but how could you not love that world? It had the greatest atmosphere, the greatest music, the most vivid artwork and the most colorful characters.

I can't understand how people can like a world such as Deep Jungle over Atlantica. Really? It's just a bland jungle, the characters are boring, the main character doesn't even speak, nor do any of the gorillas.

And what about this Pixar shit? This isn't a mix of Final Fantasy and Pixar, it's a mix of Final Fantasy and Disney. Finding Nemo? Wall-E? Madagascar? Really? I hope to God they never include any of this in Kingdom Hearts.

You know why I loved Kingdom Hearts? Because it allowed me to go on an adventure and explore the Disney worlds I had seen in my childhood, and have loved ever since. Agrabah was amazing, Wonderland was original, and for me Atlantica was just magical. Monstro was less appealing to me, Halloween Town had just the right atmosphere, Neverland was once again amazing. But Deep Jungle? I really cared least for that world in the first KH.

Kingdom Hearts II brought a few good new ones to the table (minus Space Paranoids, what the hell), but ruined the old ones. It wasn't just Atlantica that sucked, it was also Agrabah and Halloween Town. KHII in general just had a lot of disappointments.

But I don't see all this as a reason to exclude Atlantica from future installments. I think if they rework the controls and expand the world it's gonna be amazing. And yes music is a part of that too, The Little Mermaid was a musical movie. If you didn't like Part Of Your World or Under The Sea in KHII you've either never seen the movie or you hated it. I agree that the other songs weren't that good, but these two were amazing, even if that's not enough for an Atlantica world.

I think Atlantica is one of the better Disney worlds in the first game. What l liked best about it was that the story wasn't just a retelling of the movie, but had more to do with Kingdom Hearts in general.

Well I liked it....

W-w-what?! *faints*

Anyway TC, I have no idea. Atlantica was just a fresh, amazing experience for me in KH1 and it was that world that made the original my favorite game when I first played it.

See though...the only problem is...it's hard to say what worlds will be used again, but usually, when a world has gone through its original Disney storyline...it'll either go off of the sequal or they will just replace it with a new world, so I doubt we'll really a redone Atlantica :P

And honestly, those particular things are pretty much constant for all of the worlds.

Well they still have The Little Mermaid II to work with, if they're going to include Atlantica again they could tell the story of Melody, or they make an alternative story around Melody like they did with Ariel in KH1.

Yeah, you're right, but like JustRob said above, they can make an alternative story... They could've picked some ideas from the series... It's a world like no other, it's special and unique and they should continue using it.. Everytime a new game is announced, I cross my fingers in hope for Atlantica to be in it.

i wasn't a real fan of Atlatica. Never. The commands weren't that appeling, they were more annoying, and I hated that techinique to swim fast. From what I recall, it was hard to control, I disabled it to fight Ursula in fact, and not being able to go through some areas without it was frustrating at least. Singing in Kh2 sucked big time, you can imagine me trying to convince friends to play Kingdom Hearts with that stage? Inconvinient, but it's impossible to make them like that, since even I don't, and I stand a lot of stuff to keep following KH...

I don't think the singing minigame was that popular (seriously, i don't remeber seeing any positive comments) so if they make Atlantica again, it'll be another style, maybe there'll be fighting again.

In fact, the heartless hated that place so much they didn't even bother coming back in KH2.

But a new story for it would be tricky (maybe from Little Mermaid II? I hope not, it's not that good...)

Have you guys ever seen The Little Mermaid TV show? I have all the episodes, and most of them are on YouTube. Each and every episode is a story of its own, and there's also some cool villains that come along that are actually threatening. If they're going to include Atlantica again, I'd say they could definitely take a page from the TV show. Hell, they could even include Urchin, Ariel's merboy friend from the series. Although Sora has pretty much filled that gap himself, so that might make him unnecessary.

I kinda find Atlantica annoying. The first one was fun though. KHCom and KH2 I didn't really like.

I think the same xD

They really should see our ideas or we should be in the production team :)

GREAT IDEAS, they'd make a REALLY GOOD ATLANTICA WORLD!

I believe she got scared and ran away X)

it was nice allright, but it was annoying to get lost and stuff. I also liked singing part -shot-

That was convenient :D

Atlantica...<shivers> My main problems with the first KH were the controls... and I seem to hate the little mermaid film for some reason, Ariel just seems like a b***h to me, don't really know why, might be the squeaky singing voice...

Then they brought that kind of squeaky singing voice into the second KH http://kh13.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png

Not everybody has the same tastes, but for me she has this amazing, beautiful voice that fits perfectly...

I hate water worlds (Zelda Water Temple...no thanks) and the controls were really annoying

so I was glad that Atlantica was only a "mini game world" in KH II

I hope that Atlantica won't be in any KH game ever again...I want a Pixar world!!

Y'know it's funny, it took me years to get through the Water Temple the first time around, but after that I memorized the place so intensely that the second time I played through I beat it in three hours without referencing to a guide. Strange, huh?

I loved The Little Mermaid growing up. Seriously. I was actually pretty excited to see that it appeared in Kingdom Hearts. What I didn't like about Atlantica wasn't really the part in the story. Honestly, I thought the plot in Atlantica was pretty good, but what I didn't like was all the coves. I spent more time in that world than any while trying to figure out where I'm going and what I was supposed to do next. That part frustrated me, and I wonder if that's why a lot of people have hard feelings towards that world in particular.

As a side note, I'm also not a big fan of water dungeons in general, so that might be why Atlantica was no exception for me.

Wow, really? Dude, Jodi Benson is a GODDESS. Her voice is amazing, I seriously don't understand how you can not like it.

Some of the songs in KHII were wrong for her voice though. Like Swim This Way, the fast singing, it just doesn't fit in. Part Of Your World & Under The Sea were amazing though. Up where they walk, up where they run, up where they stay all day in the sun!

That was just the fun side of it. Exploring. I loved exploring Atlantica, it was so visually beautiful. They've really done the movie justice with the whole atmosphere. But yeah, I can see it getting annoying after a while. Personally I thought the battles were a bit difficult to keep track of.

SHE DOES have this AMAZING AND BEAUTIFUL voice. And yes the world was big (KH1) and had many places to explore, but like JustRob said it was the fun side of it. I truly loved and enjoyed that world and for me Atlantica was the best of the Disney worlds and the one I was so anxious to go to. Whenever I could, I was there or repeating it all over again. It should be bigger in my opinion. And yes it captured the essence of the movie. IT WAS JUST THE BESThttp://youtu.be/nEvvsWcmFXEI always wondered where those fishes went... <_< and why they put those tridents on the walls, they could've put something less eye-shocking

I know right? Whenever I listen to her sing it gives me goosebumps!

Maybe it wasn't the voice then but I sang part of your world for a talent show and won with it and had to sing it again and again to everyone so I eventually despised that song, which was my favourite from the film, i'm probably just weird lol :D

LOOOL

The music is my fav Disney song and the movie is my fav one too.. Maybe that's why I love gingers :)

I think people just become really, really angry when they play those worlds. The devs gave you Ursula in DDD so count your blessings.
