PS Vita Price Cut Announced For Japan; Price stays the same in other regions

Posted

SCEJ President Hiroshi Kawano introduced a PS Vita info session earlier today. Detailing "everyone's PlayStation Vita," he announced a price drop for Japanese models right from the outset. Starting from February 28th, the price will drop down to 19,980 yen for both the 3G (previously 30,000 yen) and WiFi (once 25,000 yen) models. Yep, both will receive a substantial price-cut alongside a a 7-day free trial of PS Plus (including Uncharted, Ridge Racer and four more titles free during February), plus a free download campaign for its Torne TV service until the end of March. No word on whether the rest of the world will benefit from the same price reduction.

Nice!

Hopefully they'll spread that reduction around. xD

I wonder if this if related to the Wii U not having a price cut.

If there is a price drop before April 6th, my life will be complete :D

No Monster Hunter = Japan no buy(unless they own 3DS already)

Link is broken.

Not too interested in a Vita atm.

Only once it gets a better library

fixed it

I want to see what it can do with the PS4 first. I think I could love a Vita, but the 3DS is starting to win me over. I want to wait a while though,  maybe when a Pokemon bundle or something is released.

Is it just me, or was today Vita Day or something? I've seen stuff about FFX, Dragon's Crown, Soul Sacrifice, and a price drop. It's almost like Sony's trying to be competitive.

the PSVita is the best handheld system ever, if you had one, and the right games, you would agree

Since I bought a few games that are in the "Cross-Buy" program, I was thinking about getting one...I don't know when though....

A price drop is good and all, but only if a nice new game library comes hand in hand with it.

This soooo expensive!! But I want persona 4 golden.

Cool. Hope this comes to the US.

and thus the Vita will start to die, unless they become smart and get that price drop over here.

Sony is cutting the price of the Playstation Vita in Japan, but a similiar price cut is not planned for other regions, acoording to a polygon report.

According to Polygon, Sony Worldwide Studios president, Shuhei Yoshida, revealed at a roundtable interview that a Japanese price was possible due to the current exchange rate. The cut, which goes into affect on Feb 28th, lowers the Vita's price  from 24, 980 yen to 19,980 yen.

Thanks to Siliconera for the tip.

No price drop here, and almost no support for it...come on Sony, be smart about the Vita.

Territories? So states will get it?Haha. That's a big drop by the way.
