... I don't see it. Really. Look, I understand that some people and groups are just plain asking for it. They can be so ignorant and stupid that they draw a target on their own faces. I've been tempted to do it myself, except my aversion to causing unnecessary trouble causes me to just roll my eyes and do my best to look the other way.
Thing is, what you deem as "asking for it" can range from high-profile idiocy like the Westboro Baptist Church, to communities or individuals on forums that are just obnoxious. Sometimes they don't even need to do anything--you can do it just because you're bored and think causing a ruckus is funny. It's that one in particular that I don't understand. I can't wrap my mind around the concept of intentionally being obnoxious or saying things you know will stir something, as a source for humor. It's usually only funny to the ones starting it. Everyone else will either roll their eyes and move onto something worthwhile... or they'll argue, causing a shitstorm and fulfilling the troll's goal of entertainment from other peoples' annoyance. I honestly can't grasp how it's funny, whether starting it or being a part of it. Maybe it's just my low-key goody two-shoes demeanor that doesn't want to start or be a part of trouble, who thinks intentionally causing a riot being hilarious is something you'd expect from middle schoolers, bullies, and middle school bullies.
It's been happening more and more on the Random forum as of late, which has actually turned me off from the section. For perspective, when I first joined this site, it was one of my most frequented threads. When I did it by making this thread, http://kh13.com/forum/topic/52569-bronies-need-to-grow-up/ I honestly felt guilty for it. I was conducting an experiment with it to solidify my thoughts, but I knew it would cause something, because it was the point. I knew that people would get "butthurt" about it ("butthurt" on the internet translating to not brushing everything off with a lol), and I felt bad for doing it. And people out there enjoy doing stuff like that? Seeing people getting worked up over something they care about, and you get laughs out of it?
I really don't understand it. Help me understand the appeal because I'm clueless.
