Which game of the FF VII Compilation/series do you feel is the best?

Posted

Its obvious for me.  Crisis Core. Not only does it have Action RPG and fun JRPG gameplay, but the story was really good and so were the side Quests and i have to admit i love Zack as a Character and Main Protagonist rather than Cloud. He's more Light Hearted, and isn't just thinking he's a copy of someone else(I know that wasn't Cloud's fault, but im just saying). Not to mention, his Journey, while it was not as Epic as Cloud, was still incredible.

I chose the original because tbh i havent played crisis core yet but maybe if i played it, my vote might change

Le original because of nostalg (subjective, yes). Doesn't mean the others are terrible though.

You can't beat the original.  I enjoyed Crisis Core, but as much as I loved Zack, it's not critical to understanding FFVII, plus Genesis and Angeal were annoying.  I can say the same for the other games.  I haven't played Before Crisis and Dirge of Cerberus and I don't feel like I'm missing anything.  Thing is with the Compilation, they're just add-ons.  The original FFVII stands strong on its own, and combined with the questionable quality of the non-Crisis Core games (though even CC has its detractors), they don't seem to do FFVII any favors.  It feels like there's the FFVII world, and the Compilation world that happens to be based on FFVII.

Also, Advent Children is technically part of the Compilation.  Though that's hardly my favorite, either.

Crisis Core was my favorite. One of the main reasons I bought a psp

I know, but im counting the games, not the movie.

The original game is by far my favorite, perfect characters, story, gameplay, and even it's blocky graphics are great.  If it's the compilation (which technically the original isn't a part of), Crisis Core was the only one that was a competent game and it was pretty fun

Crisis Core, definitely. I honestly didn't like the original VII too much (It was still good, but not exactly great), and Crisis Core was overall really well made.

It's also the only game to have ever made me cry ;_;

I've played both, but I'll have to say Crisis Core was the better game.  It really filled in all the gaping holes that FF7 left, including all those questions that left you scratching your head with befuddlement.  I also felt it did a much better job of characterization, and portrayed Sephiroth something other than a madman who was obsessed with his mommy and consuming the planet.  It was probably the greatest Final Fantasy I've played (perhaps even greater than FF VI...).  And certainly the most emotional.  All those character deaths...wow.

...plus Genesis and Angeal were annoying.

*jaw drops*, You thought Genesis and Angeal were annoying?!  Even Angeal?!  I thought he was awesome!  All his talk about honor really got to my head. :P  I'm just kidding; I understand where you're coming from.  I think they're characters that you'll either love or hate, and it all depends on the individual's tastes.

The Original

Yeah I thought that Angeal and Genesis were really annoying as well. I wasn't a fan of the battle system either, the original had that teamwork feel.

Crisis Core

As for Genesis,I find him a  more appealing villian than Sephiroth the mama boy

However, this compilations shows clearly how much they milked the FFVII name

Definitely.  The original FFVII and its Compilation have two distinct feels to me.  I can't describe how they feel so different, it just feels that way.  I think of the Compilation as a bunch of gaudy accessories tacked on after someone completed a well-crafted though by no means perfect thing that stood fine on its own.  The accessories fill in an imperfection or two at the cost of making the whole thing look tacky.

I mean seriously, FFVII Advent Children adds nothing to the story, you can omit it and it won't affect anything in the FFVII Universe

Before Crisis on the mobile phones doesn't add much

I liked Dirge of Cerberus but did we really need it other than Genesis's appearance in the secret ending????

And the OVAs about Denzel .....what does it add to the story of Cloud and his friends????

The only FFVII spin-off that deserves to exist is Crisis Core

The others were just Square saying:Let us cash on the FFVII name since everyone will praise anything that has the holy FFVII logo on it.

I agree with you whole heartedly. I think Crisis Core was ages better than the original, but the original is still great all the same.

Crisis Core was fantastic, to me it was more engaging than the original. Zacks character was also much better than Clouds

Same here. Zack seemed to have more development and character than Cloud IMHO.
