If Re: Coded was titled Kingdom Hearts 3 it would get a hell of a lot more recognition. It having a number wouldn't make it a "side game" apparently.

And it would have been a huge let-down rather than just a side-game no one had much expectations to.

Considering it adds little plot progression it would be considered pretty sad and a huge letdown . I loved its gameplay though .

Well that's true, but since it took so long, and it is being expected by the fans to be the ultimate awesome ending of Xehanort Saga, they would never have called it KH3. 

It would definetely be more accepted if it was called KH3, but only if this game wasn't expected to be so huge and cool. 

I remember people thinking KH3D was KH3 because of the 3. lol

If ReCoded and/or 3D was actually KH3 I'd feel as if it was a big letdown.

Considering all the hate it got anyway, if it was exactly the same except for the title, people would be so pissed off at Square. It would've been instead of just a boring side game, it would've been the BIGGEST LET DOWN IN KH HISTORY. Seriously. It only would've made things worse.
