So i've noticed there have been quite a few people who don't really like shooters on here (or FP anything). I just wanted to know why, and what makes you not like them that much. 

 

There are tons of great FPS series: Bioshock, Borderlands, Tf2, Left 4 Dead, Half Life, Deus Ex, Fallout ect

 

But yeah, why so much indifference towards shooters? (Let's leave COD and Halo)

I'm just not into that sort of gameplay. It just feels boring to me.

I think it has to be done right. It's easy for it to be dull, but in the case of Half-Life, or the Elder Scrolls, I think it can be done very well.

I'm not a complete fan of them but I like playing FPS.

Its just so boring too me,there s no charm to these games,the story is always unintersting to me and in games like Call of duty the environment is garbage,I know its suppose to be a warzone and all,but I really like it when I see memorable places in games like Waterfalls,green fields,forest,etc.

 

Though,I dont like FPS there are a few exception like Goldeneye and I ve heard that games like Fallout 3 or Borderland 2 were like FPS-RPG or something like that,THIS looks interesting.If it wasnt of KH 1.5 ,Tales of Xillia,Rayman Legends and Naruto ultmate ninja storm 3,I might have actually decided to give it a shot.

Its too repetitive and gets boring really quickly. The only FPS games i like are Bioshock, TF2, and Left 4 Dead, thats it.

It's very simple. The gameplay is repetitive throughout most of the games. Even when playing online, the primary and only goal is to kill and win. All you really do is go around shooting everything in sight. There isn't any variety, unique gameplay, or anything.

Thats how i feel. I wasted my money on Black Ops 2 for nothing.

Actuallly I'm more indifferent to Shooters. I don't like them but I do not dislike them. I'll admit there are some I'd really like to play coughmetroidprimecough but I do not find myself playing them often. Certain games I feel do it right. Call of duty, all the games feel very similar but with new additions to me. As a whole I don't think it's a bad genre but I can only see myself getting into single titles or unique fps games.

Almost every game genre has some sort of repetitive gameplay though. KH is repetitive, all your doing is mashing X half the time.

If you go by that then: Platformers are just jumping and moving forward, Fighting games are just two people hitting each other, Racing games are just driving a car, ect

But in KH its an action RPG, its fun, i love RPG's so maybe that's why it doesn't feel as repetitive to me.

 

But most FPS's make me bored, TBH.

I am a fan ... nothing beats killing someone with over the top firepower

I think a lot of it is a matter of who the target audience of FPS are, compared to RPG audiences. The game formats are pretty different: FPS generally focuses on stealth, aim, and other reflex skills, and tends to involve more of a team based format, or at least usually has enough multiplayer to encourage playing with a lot of people. RPG usually focuses heavily on story, some kind of strategy, stat tinkering, and generally keeps the gameplay to single player mode. 

 

Though, oddly, a game like Kingdom Hearts, given that it focuses very heavily on reflex skills, really isn't too terribly far from the same skill-set that an FPS requires. Both involve a lot of quick thinking, adapting quickly to new situations, and being able to plan on the fly. Any strategy there is in choosing your spells or moves is really no different than the strategy that goes into choosing what gun or weapon you would use in an FPS and how you would go about using it.

 

Honestly, I think most of the distaste to FPS is a reaction to the commercial success of the games, rather than necessarily being about the games themselves.

I don't like FPSes because they make me dizzy.  I can't play them or even watch them.  Otherwise I'd have played Portal or the Metroid Prime series by now.

They're all too similar, honestly. Not to mention repetitive. I dunno, like what Dave said, it's also a matter of target audiences. I've grown on RPGs my whole life, so a genre like FPS games don't appeal to me that much since they're complete opposites. I really like Half Life and TF2 though, those are some of my favorite games of all time. If the game can catch my attention, then I'll give it a shot. Not many FPS games have done that, though.

That is surprisingly true, if someone doesn't like something they often say that o.e

Personally, I just don't like the first person perspective. Maybe it's because I grew up on third person games, but I just can't get use to the way a game in the first person controls or plays. 

 

As for the shooting portion of FPSs, I just generally don't enjoy guns. To be quite honest, I find guns pretty boring all around, not just in games. I'll take a sword(axe/mace/etc.) or magic over a gun any day. Heck, I even like bow and arrow, which can control quite similarly to guns in games. I don't really have a reason, especially since games vary in play-style no matter the weapon, other than I love fantasy and medieval stuff.
