I thought it was similar to Coke and Pepsi's name of their drink.  Coke Zero, Pepsi One

 

If you rank things, Number one is obviously the best.  I assumed they're trying to market it 3 spots ahead of PS4, I wonder if they'll start using "number 1 xbox one" in their marketing.

Its called Xbox one because thats the only way the Xbox will ever get the number One beside its name

Its because the original Xbox was really good, but the 360 sucked, so they are giving it the same name as the old one so maybe in hope that they'll get lucky and it'll be as good as the original.
