Hey everyone, how's it going?  Well then, as you all know, we've been waiting for Kingdom Hearts 3 for quite a while, although I will admit that thanks to Nomura, we'll be able to be pretty distracted with 1.5 HD Remix.  Anyways, we all know that Kingdom Hearts 3 won't be made until work on Final Fantasy Versus XIII is finished.  But Square should at least begin work, even if it's preliminary work, on Kingdom Hearts 3, given this little piece of news that I read from Game Informer magazine, which says:

  • "Square Enix president and CEO Yoichi Wada has stepped down in the wake of a disappointing financial forecast and what the company sees as poor sales numbers in Western markets for Tomb Raider(3.4 million units sold), Hitman: Absolution(3.6 million), and Sleeping Dogs(1.75 million).  Square Enix is going through a complete company restructuring, which has resulted in the loss of jobs at the publisher/developer's Los Angeles office.

It's really saddening to hear this news, because Square is one of my favorite video game companies of all time.  What I think they should do is to at least start getting to work on Kingdom Hearts 3, because let's face it, other than Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts is basically Square's second most successful RPG franchise. (This is just my opinion, because I haven't played the Dragon Quest Games or other games of the sort, so don't kill me. xD)  Kingdom Hearts 3 might be the saving grace of this company, and I think that it would bring back lots of money and prevent more job losses.  What do you people think?

I dont think you understand though the team that is working on kh3 is currently still working on versus they go in everyday to work on that game so until it is finished they cannot begin production on it would you rather have two crap games out by next year or wait a while longer and have two masterpeices

I completely understand, that's what I mentioned in the beginning of this topic, but they should at least do preliminary work, as in concept art or gameplay testing so they can at least have that part of the game up and running.  They can divide the teams to work on Versus XIII and on Kingdom Hearts 3, because in all seriousness, it's been a hell of a while since Versus XIII was announced, 7 years to be exact.  Even Final Fantasy XIII didn't take that long.  What I'm trying to say here is that Square should at least get some input from fans to see what works and what doesn't so that they can finally get to work on Kingdom Hearts 3. ^_^

But they cannot do pilimaneary work if the staff is working on versus and if they divide the teams there is a much greater chance of getting a game of reduced quality or having to wait even longer for versus which would be ridiculous at this point

You have a good point fellow Xemnas.  But Square should at least do something so they can stop firing employees  and lose even more money.

Hmm, I'd imagine also that KH3 would have much higher sales than the other games because of the sheer hype about the game, but I think this would make it more of a hit or miss game for the company. On the one hand it could be a really expansive project, with not the best results, such as FFXIII, or it could simply rack up tons of cash as we expect. Versus XIII seems to be in the same situation.

If square had been doing better off I would imagine they would be a bit more lacks with the sales of their NA targeted games. I don't think that a single game will be the saving grace of the company. It would have to be multiple games to make up for the multiple games that did less than satisfactory and they are changing management to do that.

As far as working on KH3 now both the Osaka Team and the KIngdom Hearts Team have their hands full, but I don't see why Nomura can't write up the storyboard for the game and do that sort of work.

Amen to that brother.

I agree.  I don't think they should put it in development yet until the team is completely free, but Nomura could start documenting/planning the plot, ideas, have the team who worked on the handheld titles concept outfits/armor/keyblade designs.  Give us sneak teasers/little hints as to what's going to be in it/happen.  Get some excitement up.  7 (plus more by the time) years between the numbered titles, the enthusiasm that was there at the end of KH2 for a lot of fans is long gone.

IDK. I mean FF1 was the saving grace of Square Soft AND IT WAS ONLY THE ONE GAME. So it doesn't neccesarily have to be multiple games to be a saving grace. But the more the better, as long as they're good games.

Also, Nomura says he already has the ending of KH and some ideas for KH3 in his head. He just hasn't made any concept art or anything.

There is probably already pre-work done for KH3. I would'nt put it by them to have already started on concept art and character design. But other then that they won't be starting full production untill Versus is finished.

True, I guess then its only that I don't think that KH3 will be that revolutionary for the company. I knew Nomura already had those Ideas inside his head, I was just saying he could be getting into a bit finer detail.

Thats a sound idea.

That's surprising to me that Tomb Raider and Sleeping dogs (Especially) didn't sell well. I thought Tomb Raider was a great game, and that's coming from a non-tomb raider fan. I also thought Sleeping dogs was pretty unique in it's gameplay, and I had an enjoyable time with that too. Hitman: Absoloution was boring.

Kingdom Hearts III won't save Square Enix. Tomb Raider couldn't, and it's much bigger than Kingdom Hearts. Final Fantasy 15 will be what they need.
