Nintendo WILL Let EVO Stream SSBM

Posted

It has been revealed today that Nintendo won’t allow top fighting game tournament EVO to stream Super Smash Bros Melee. The news came about when fighting game news site Shoruyken – which is run by the people behind the tournament – published the Evo schedule update. Games that will feature at this year’s event include Mortal Kombat and Injustice as well as Super Street Fighter and Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. Interestingly the Smash Bros Melee community raised around $95,000 for Evo’s charity fundraiser for breast cancer research. By raising that money the fans earned Melee an inclusion in this year’s tournament. There’s a hashtag for complaining about this on Twitter. #freemelee.

Regrettably, we’ve just been informed by Nintendo of America Inc. that we do not have permission to broadcast Super Smash Bros. Melee for Evo 2013.

This is a real punch in the face for those who raised nearly $95,000 for charity, I mean come on Nintendo...don't be so damn lame.

I really don't see a downside to them allowing this

Nintendo has been in a roller coaster lately. It brings me smiles in one point, then disappoints me with stupid decisions like this. Are they serious? It's for charity for crying out loud. They are really putting a bad image on themselves.

This is exactly how i feel...  Thanks for summing it up.

Nintendo should hook these guys up with a demo of Smash Bros. for Wii U to play. Would totally make up for it.

Normally, I'm willing to try and look a things from Nintendo's perspective in things like this (region locking, blocking let's players, etc.), but in this case it really is just a stupid move. The game is ancient now, so money shouldn't even be an issue. In fact, they should be freaking honored to have Smash Bros. at such a well known fighting game tournament. Especially since there is a fairly substantial amount of people who don't even consider Smash Bros. a fighter at all (and get quite mad when people disagree with them). They should be even more honored that fans love the game enough to raise $90,000 for charity in order to get the game at EVO at all.

I'm sorry Nintendo, but no. Just no.

I won't blame the entire company, but I'm gonna blame the American branch for this stupid move.NoA has been the source of all the hiccups that Nintendo made recently and this is no exception.

I hope things turn for the better and allow SSBM to be streamed at EVO

it is unfair they should be flattered people injoy the game to put it in a real high stacking tournament but im a breast lover so im happy the money whent to breast cancer

Nintendo is trying to take Microsoft's place as the biggest dick in Gaming.... why else would they do this

"I’ve just receive word from Nintendo that the Evo Smash Bros. Melee stream will be allowed to proceed. We will be restoring the original stream and tournament schedules. Obviously this is a huge relive for all of us here and we’re thrilled that the world will get to see the best Smash players fight it out this weekend. Thanks to everyone online who supported both Evo and Smash."

Adding to J. Severe's post! This is awesome, can't believe the problem was fixed in a few hours. POWER OF THE PEOPLE

pretty sure they don't really have a playable version of it at this point, as well as the fact that it's not being worked on by Nintendo really, it's Sora Ltd. and Namco's development work.

Problem is fixed in hours

So this post is pointless

And since Nintendo allowing the stream...they're not dicks.

It's just people at the American branch are stupid

Can you please update the title of the thread with this???

If it's sorted, all good and well, but they've been mentioning problems and resisting people who stream or do let's plays of their games for a while where the people i subscribe do won't make long videos anymore in case they get in shit.  People who do this, have bought the game and are going on to advertise it for free, so I really don't see why Nintendo has decided to start making problems for people who want to play their games and share the experience.

FINALLY

THANK YOU HEI

Man, they are being such dicks lately.

Nintendo has made a U-Turn and allowed LPers to make money once again.

It's been revealed weeks ago

Man, they are being such dicks lately.

The American branch only, not the whole company.

Something wrong is going on Reggie's mind lately

I'm gonna assume what happened was a misunderstanding in the American management of Nintendo as Reggie might not realize what was Melee used for,but when they heard the whole story they allowed the game to be used.

That's the only explaination as misunderstandings happens all the time.So the whole "Nintendo is dick" is pointless because this has happened with many companies in and outside of EVO....I bet Capcom even had an issue like this years ago but it was solved very fast.

But with Nintendo was a little more appearant because they're 1st party publishers

probably a good assumptionit does take a while for information to travel up the chain sometimes and there are often confusions in that chain.  Not all decisions are made with all the info on the table.

So....can we close this thread and move on please????

Nothing really happened here as the whole thing got solved in a matter of 1:30 hour really.

No need to overglorify something that has been solved.

Besides, don't blame everyone in the company, blame the American branch only, especially Reggie because his tweets lately and his decisions were questionable.

Anyway, nothing happens. So no need for this to be open anymore

Another reason I can think of is that they might wanted Brawl to be in EVO instead of Melee since Brawl was the most recent title in the series and they might wanted more exposure for it.

But anyway,glad it's over

"Earlier this week, Nintendo refused to allow streaming of Super Smash Bros. Melee at this weekend’s Evo 2013 fighting video game tournament. The company quickly reversed its decision and decided that organizers of the event had permission to broadcast the Nintendo GameCube game. According to Evo co-founder Joey Cuellar, not only did Nintendo want to shut down the stream; the company wanted to shut down the Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament entirely.

Even though the problem is already solved, this is pretty weird

I think it might be still a misunderstanding because the issue solved pretty fast...just 1:30 hour and everything is back on track.....again I'm convinced that they didn't know what Melee was used for but when they knew it was for charity they resumed it.

Believe me it's not bad PR because PR won't be fixed in a matter of an hour.Capcom had bad PR with it's DLC and they didn't fixed it in hours just because of bitching

This is clearly a misunderstanding because the issue was solved so unbelievably fast

Reggie clearly doesn't know what he's doing

If it wasn't for Iwata to bitchslap him in the face for every f.uck up he could've hurt the entire company

Reggie shouldn't be in charge of the American branch
