Posted July 12, 201312 yr Not that i have anything against it but, why is it that people from 16-20s/30s watch kids cartoons when they're not a part of the target audience, im just asking a question here.
July 12, 201312 yr Well, one easy reason is the older humor hidden. Like in The Regular Show I also heard there's adult humor in My Little Pony FiM, but I didn't see it And another one kid's cartoon doesn't mean they put less effort into it BECAUSE it's for kids. Like Avatar and the Legend of Korra were kid shows, but there are easily things that could be admired by older audiences
July 12, 201312 yr Name one halfway decent cartoon from the last three years that's still airing new episodes and I'll give it a try. Depends on what you consider decent. If you're a fellow 90s kid, please, cite objective reasons for why Rocko's Modern Life and Angry Beavers, two of my favorite shows from that time, are oh so superior to, say, Regular Show or Adventure Time. But try Legend of Korra, and then say modern cartoons don't put in any effort in their work.

Already have DVR set to record the next season. See below for explanation I'm talking about cartoons like the shit I listed in my first post. from what I've seen all other modern cartoons seem to imitate those four that I listed. Shows I liked from the 90's were Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, and Histaria. Along with Superman the Animated Series, Batman the Animated Series As well as Aladdin the Animated Series and The Little Mermaid the Animated Series and various anime like Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z and Digimon. Not Yu-Gi-Oh though. Never got into that one. Of the Anime I did like back then have since grown out of Pokemon but still enjoy the other three. I swear, if the Hub stars re airing Hystaria like they have Animaniacs Tiny Toons, Superman and Batman I'll be in 90's heaven. Gravity Falls Legend of Korra pick one Already watch LoK. Love it. I'll try Gravity Falls. The I asked is because I'm one of those people who don't see good cartoons on theses days except anime I put LoK and other anime inspired cartoons of Western origins in that category because in the original meaning any cartoon from any country is considered anime Edited July 12, 201312 yr by Isamu_Kuno

It's so elitist. I guess shit=anything you don't like. I don't even watch TV these days, but aside from Korra, which I've watched in full, I've caught episodes of those "shitty" episodes and they're actually pretty amusing to me. Guess that makes me and the shitton of fans who enjoy them retards, eh? Well, sorry, guess I'll go shoot myself in the foot with a nail gun. Durr hurr. Edited July 12, 201312 yr by Dracozombie
July 12, 201312 yr I could say samething about kingdom hearts Also most 60's to early 00's shows are not very good Edited July 12, 201312 yr by Deadshot
July 12, 201312 yr There are actually plenty of people who do enjoy things like Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Gumball due to themselves finding it plenty entertaining on it's own. The thing is, the comedy may not be to your liking because you're simply not the targeted audience anymore. It's going to cater more to modern children then it is going to cater to you. Does that mean older people can like it? Absolutely. Does that mean the show is objectively horrible? Not at all.
July 12, 201312 yr I could say samething about kingdom hearts Mmm. Just look at the amount of people claiming god, Kingdom Hearts is such shit! It's for kids, how can people like it? Why can't people play GOOD games these days? Sounds strangely familiar. I can't put my finger on it.

If you would both bother to read my first post in this topic you would see that I did make several exceptions, but those make up a very small portion of the cartoons that are currently airing. Regrettably I am currently unemployed and thus have nothing to do all day but read, play video games and watch TV. Dracozombie, you seem to be laboring under the assumption that I own a pair of nostalgia colored glasses but I can assure you I do not. In fact, I have tried several of these modern shows and have seen nothing entertaining about them. I'm not being an elitist or close minded, I'm merely stating my observations. I'm sure these shows each have some good episodes under their belt but that does not make the shows themselves good as a whole. Furthermore, how can I be strutting around when I'm sitting in a chair? This topic is supposed to be about why adults enjoy shows aimed at children, and I thought we were having a mature discussion, but I can see now that you are intent on attacking me simply because I have a different opinion, even though I have not one judged either of you, and have actually given you the opportunity to to suggest sows to me so I could try to see your point of view. My, how inconsiderate of me to dare try to ask for a chance to see things your way. At any rate I can see now that this will be devolving into a flame war, so please, do not respond to me anymore until you read my first post, in full and quoted it in a response explaining, calmly, why you disagree. Well, if you'll excuse me. Edited July 12, 201312 yr by Isamu_Kuno

July 12, 201312 yr well at first you were like WELLL MOST WESTERN and then you went and edited your post anyway and jesus christ you act like we firetrucking told you to kill yourself or something Most of that was meant for Dragozombie. Yes I edited the post because the more I thought about the topic the more I had to say. If I have something to add to a post that isn't a response to someone else I edit it rather than posting again to save space, so I wind up doing that a lot. And the exceptions I made make up a mere 2 1/2 hours out of all the airtime that cartoons get, so I think most is a pretty accurate description of what I was saying.

Well, if you'll excuse me. Shall I break down your post? Very well. "Stoners will watch anything." Yup, certainly not implying anything about people liking certain shows. "They have no plot and the animation looks cheap." Episodic shows=/=bad. They'll have an overarching theme but I don't know what you mean when you say something has "no plot." By that logic, I can argue Azumanga Daioh has no plot. And I find it ironic that you're an anime fan and claiming the animation of many western shows is cheap. "And they all have 15 min episodes." Um... so? What's it matter if something's 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 5 minutes, or an hour and a half? "Problem is, today's com toons aren't even funny." By whose standards? Not yours, I guess, but I'm sure those shows have enough older fans to make up a decent demographic. So, whose opinions should I listen to? Yours, or the people who actually get enjoyment from it? "Personally, if I want to watch a bunch of poorly animated retards get into ridiculously impossible situations, then I'll go watch South Park thank you very much. At least that's funny." Wooow dude, seriously? Wow. That's certainly not biased and totally answers the question about why there are plenty of adults enjoy them. What's wrong with some absurd humor? Sometimes humor comes precisely because they're absurd. Just how is South Park more superior to anything else? I don't see much difference of humor between it and the things you bashed.
July 12, 201312 yr To be completely honest, I find Regular Show to be absolutely hilarious, even if it is directed to say, my younger brother for example, I'll still watch that show for an entire day long. Albeit I have the mentality of an 11 year-old.

Sometimes humor comes precisely because they're absurd. Just how is South Park more superior to anything else? I don't see much difference of humor between it and the things you bashed. The stoner thing was partially a joke, I thought that was obvious but I guess not. But come on, you can't honestly say you've never imagined a guy in his dorm room, smoking a blunt and laughing his ass of at Regular Show. By no plot I mean the situations are completely random. I've never even heard of Azumanga Daioh. As for the quality of animation Just look at any anime or anime inspired show and compare the cleanliness off the lines, the smoothness of motion and the quality of the shading. My point is, why air a 30 min ep made up of two 15 min eps if you're just point to spit them up later, Why not make on 30 min ep or air a single 15 min one at a time? Exactly my opinion. I thought it would be obvious that people would be stating their opinions on a thread that is specifically about why people like certain things, not to mention that by it's very nature comedy is subjective. Finally, I have not said anything is superior to anything else. I've simply been stating what I think just as you have. The only difference is I haven't been as aggressive about it. If you like those shows, fine, that's your prerogative. I simply don't see the appeal. That's all there is to it. I'm not going to apologize for my opinion just as I wouldn't expect you to or convince you to change you mind. Edited July 12, 201312 yr by Isamu_Kuno
July 13, 201312 yr okay but adventure time and gravity falls and motorcity and regular show are still the shit and no one really has the right to judge modern cartoons and call them "complete crap" etc because thats based on their own biased judgement its fine not to like modern cartoons but saying they all suck is just dumb bc like okay yeah they suck to you but some people firetrucking love modern cartoons anyways in like 10 years all the kids right now are going to be spewing the same bullshit 90s kids are "ugh what is this shit, what happened to adventure time and the annoying orange? those were the best, modern cartoons suck"
July 13, 201312 yr People might hate me for it, bu I miss 4Kids, that Vortex is driving me nuts. I used to get up every Saturday mornings for Cartoons, Sonic X, Dinosaur King, Magi Nation, Yu-Gi-Oh, DBZ Kai, and all that good stuff. I love the Justice League and stuff, but last time I check, Saturday morning cartoons didn't include WWE. As for Cartoon Network, I miss when it was Courage the Cowardly Dog, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Original Pokemon, Johnny Bravo, He- Man Masters of The Universe, Ed, Edd, and Eddy, Codename: Kids Next Door, Powerpuff Girls, you catch my drift. Disney Channel, I miss it when it was That's So Raven, Cory in The House, Sweet Life of Zack and Cody, Lilo and Stitch: The Series, Jake: The American Dragon, Kim Possible, Hannah Montanna, Lizzy McGuire, Emperor's New Groove. I love Phineas and Ferb, but that's relatively new. Anime and Doctor Who pretty much is what TV I watch now.

I loved and miss all those shows I've been trying to bypass my nostalgia lately, and I gotta say the Regular Show is all right. I think Iiked one or two episodes of Phineas and Ferb too. But yeah, comparing cartoons now to what they were when we were growing up is hard cuz things change and people grow. I see how adults can sometimes watch and enjoy kids shows because even if a show is aimed at a younger audience doesn't mean everything is dummed down or any less entertaining. A prime example being AtLA ( as lots of people have already said). When you judge a cartoon show or any show for that matter, its best to leave your personal biases out of it.
July 13, 201312 yr but last time I check, Saturday morning cartoons didn't include WWE. Heh, actually, when I was a kid, the WWF was a staple of my Saturday viewing.
July 13, 201312 yr While I don't particularly like cartoons, I think regular show is very well written and very entertaining.
July 15, 201312 yr As someone who has watched cartoons for decades with his children/grandchildren, this decade has to be the worse(signs started showing after 2006).
July 16, 201312 yr The adults could be watching them with their kids. I watch kid shows with my younger cousins sometimes.
Not that i have anything against it but, why is it that people from 16-20s/30s watch kids cartoons when they're not a part of the target audience, im just asking a question here.
