The restoration of Master Xehanort due to Ansem and Xemnas being destroyed as well as the whole time travel thing? I haven't played 3D or watched cutscenes yet, but I'm reading various websites and I'm having trouble putting it all together. Also who is young Xehanort and how does he even exist?

Very throughouly. Check it out.

Master Xehanort's return has nothing to do with all the time travel shenanigans per se.  As you should probably know, the destruction of a person's corresponding Nobody and Heartless will cause them to become themselves again, so Master Xehanort was bound to return regardless of the events in KH3D.

 

Edit: I didn't read what you said right so..the above statement isn't quite accurate as to your actual question.

 

As for Young Xehanort, he is, as his name states, a very young Master Xehanort.  The details of as to how he managed to get to the point he did in Sora's time is not something I fully understand.  Someone else will have to answer that question.

Basically in short.  MX sent left a hollowed out heart creature type thing of himself on Desinty Islands back in time(to enable time travel) to tell his younger self who lived on Destiny Islands to travel through time and find incarnations of himself and bring them to the right point in time to clash with 7 guardians of light in hope of creating the X-blade.  

 

With nobodies and heartless there's the condition that on the elimination of both, e.g. Ansem SoD and Xemnas the original being is reconstructed, so MX is back (as with several other Organization members)

 

Young Master Xehanort is his younger self who upon meeting MX (mentioned in first line) learned the ability to time travel from MX.  

 

As said Gamestrailers has a condensed timeline of the whole plot.

More or less,if you played all of them you'd still have a better understanding but this does explain things throughly enough.

It's till pretty hard to understand in the game but basically YX was going through time getting all the different versions of Xehanort

Ok so Terra-Xehanort and apprentice Xehanort:

 

Are they the same? Since Young Xehanort looks so much like the apprentice Xehanort.. But I thought the apprentice was Terra-Xehanort. So I don't understand how a younger form of MX could look so similar to a cross between Terra and Xehanort. Please correct me if I am wrong haha.
