Will Lightning Returns be the amazing game that people expected the original XIII to be?

Posted

I think so. It's looking to be the best of the trilogy without a doubt honestly. As much as i love XIII-2, i feel like i'll love Lightning Returns 100 times better. Seriously.

People thought the original game would be amazing since it was the first for PS3 and took so long to develop, but it was crippled by the linear hallway design for the places you visited, and that made it not as good as previous entries. But here, the gameplay has free roam, many sidequests(since you need to do them to level up in this game) and an Action Based Battle System like KH, instead of Turn based.

I agree with ya, I'm loving every new thing about LR so far.

It was good in terms of gameplay and story, but the linearity made it worse in all honesty. I still like it, but not as much as i like XIII-2.

because 1-10 are much better, and most of the time of 13 is walk, and it's the same thing all over the game, there are no "reall mission" there, the only thing you have to do that isn't story is "Kill That Monster!"

It will..people will remember it in future..like ps1 -ff7, ps2 -ffx and ps3 with ff13

yes it will make back fans for the series that we have already lost definetly, but it will not be ff 13, this is lightning returns an original game in concept and design and a proudly welcomed entry to the final fantasy series.

It will make up for lost ties and open the door way to an even brigther tommorow.

in my local gamestop on the day they first showed the lr trailer several fans were standing around the desk fanboying and fangirling over it, this game will be a huge success :)

Am I the only one who didnt mind the linearity? If anything, it made it easier to get on with the gameplay and story which I enjoyed immensely. No getting lost, no getting sidetracked, no time wasted.

Also it might not seem like it, but a lot of other ff games are linear as well. Not because of the "hallways" but because there were only a few places you could access on the map for story purposes.

Its not easy to make an "open-world" game with a story that is meant to flow in one direction. Places are usually barred off to preven players from going to places they shouldnt be yet. Lighting Returns will have cutscenes that can happen in any order I think.

Anyway that's just my 2 gil on the matter.

I dont know. My bar is pretty low.

I don't really see how fans of older FF games are being happy if the turn based fighting system is removed. Also the story of XIII games isn't everyone's cup of tea.

I'm guessing it wont be as good as it looks...

I didn"t mind the linear hallways, sure open worlds are better, but not every games needs open world and for a game that focuses on story and battles I really didn"t mind.

Beside FF10 I don"t see any other linear FF game.Even if you where limited to a few places at least you had the choice to go to multiple places even if they have no purpuse at all and as the story move on,you can revisit the places you"ve already been.

Its not easy, but its not impossible, they"ve done it in XIII-2 and a lot of games tells story without being set in a hallway

I agree. not impossible at all. i didn't mean linear as in hallway linear, i meant linear in terms of story. What i mean is that XIII kinda had a story that went from point A to point B. There was an order to how the events happened. XIII-2 had a kind of story where you were doing something different in every world you went in, kind of like Kingdom Hearts. Cutscenes could for the most part, happen in any order. There were no worries about what happened chronologically.

Gah, I don't know if i'm making sense here

I think that most of the fans are done with XIII

I doubt it. XIII still has a huge fanbase.

I meant final fantasy fans...y'know, the ones who keep hating on it.
