The wind blew softly over the island. Besides the soft swaying of the trees there was little to disturb the idyllic serenity here. The island stretched out for miles, but at the coasts there was nothing to see but water. The island, like the universe in which it existed, was nearly empty, the remnants of life clung, decaying, to its shores and its trees and its fields, but the yells of excitement, of fear, of courage that has once complimented the sound of the wind ha since faded to echoes. Today, however, that changed. Today life returned to the universe. The only question is; what kind of universe would it return to?

"C'mon, get up!"

"All of you, wake up."

"Rise and shine, it's a new day."

Far away voices entered the hazy minds of those sleeping on the island.

Lying on the shore of a short beach was Seraphim Valentine, Derik Absolon, and Samantha Allison, and Rodin Seefull. The wind blew over them as they lay sprawled over the sand in close proximity to each other. Just as they had been placed. Next to the beach was a mix of jungle and swamp that went deeper into the mainland. Besides that the beach was mostly barren. A wrecked fishing boat was rusted and decaying within walking distance, but nothing more. The waves lapped up on the shore softly...

Lying in the middle of an airstrip surrounded by jungle was a different group. Rusted machine parts lay strewn about, and any sign of activity at the airstrip had long since faded. On the ground in the middle of the airstrip lay Alex Dimanche, Ferro al'Vere, and Hazimie Azhar Two desolate bunkers flanked the airstrip they were on, with a control tower at the end of the strip. Forest flanked the airstrip on all sides, with a single winding road leading out. The wind cut through the trees and sliced past the bunkers onto the airstrip. Only the wind and the trees provided any sound to the desolate military installation...

Deep in the jungle was a pair of rusted jeeps parked next to a crumbling house. The jeeps were long past functioning, and their engines were removed recently as well. The house sat surrounded by the trees with a single road leading somewhere further into the jungle. Inside the house were the four people; Rija Mors, Terry Frost, Henko Tenioenai, Koizumi Onnea, and Rin Nozomi Part of the roof of the house had caved in, and most of the belongings and furniture were gone. Remaining in the house were a few pots and pans, and single picture in an immaculate frame on a table in the room where the four people were laying. Silence pervaded the house...

The far away voices slowly awakened all of these people. The clouds in the blue skies above moved slowly; the morning was upon them. It was time to wake up and find the future...

Rin stepped back, staring at Henko.

"What do you mean by 'peculiar'?" she asked, turning towards the cabin she heard Veridyan.

"We might as well go back unless you insist not too." she said, looking at Henko.

"Nothing that I can put into words or point out." Henko replied.

He took a step back "But aside from that, the enigmatic zombie master wishes to speak with us. Shall we go?"

Without waiting for a response, Henko began walking.

"I figured something like that. When that mech was assembling, my scans came up somewhat abruptly, as if they had been fed data." Ferro stepped back from Rytt. "And he may be smarter, even though I haven't seen a demonstration of that, but I'm the quick thinker here. And I'm not insane."

"I was right!" Sera punched the air. "Knew this was virtual!" She didn't see anyone else smiling, so she faltered. "And uh...USA." She glanced around, a bit...and felt uneasy. The other woman was a bit intense. The guy she saved...not sure. The last guy? She didn't like much.

Elaryse sighed. "If you're expecting weapons smiths, you will be disappointed."

She listened to each person in turn talk about their home. "Seems like all of you are pretty sound of mind. Well, you're good enough at least." She turned to Rodin. "How about you boy?"

Elaryse sighed. "If you're expecting weapons smiths, you will be disappointed."

She listened to each person in turn talk about their home. "Seems like all of you are pretty sound of mind. Well, you're good enough at least." She turned to Rodin. "How about you boy?"

After taking all this in and thinking, Rodin replies:  "USA, California."  Looking at all the group here and to Elaryse, Rodin thinks:  So we're in a kind of cyber world.  It makes sense since back in our own time virtual reality wasn't completely developed.  I know for sure now that these other people joined in the cryo freezing.  But I feel like there should be others.  Better not focus on that thought for now.  Rodin says to Elaryse:  "So, what happens next Elaryse?"

"Nothing that I can put into words or point out." Henko replied. He took a step back "But aside from that, the enigmatic zombie master wishes to speak with us. Shall we go?"Without waiting for a response, Henko began walking.

"Let's go see the mastermind. He does anything crazy we'll run away." Rin said seriously, beginning to walk along side Henko.

"This guy is weird. It's a bit annoying. He must like me or something.....wait....WHY?! Nobody liked me back at school are anything...why would he?!" Rin thought, walking ahead some.

Rija smiled just a bit at Koizumi. Making friends was something she was good at. "Yeah, I was a member of Super Spec Ops. Well, that was our nickname for it at least." Rija replied to Koizumi, before turning around again. Veridyan was calling them back. "What do you want, ya little green-haired prick? Tests are normally multiple choice, not zombies. Honestly, I'd rather have an essay!" Rija ranted a tad before walking over to where Veridyan's stood.

"Come on! Let's go!" Henko declared, grabbing Rin's hand.

"Of we have any questions, we can ask this guy." He pulled the two of them back towards the cabin, building, thing to meet with their assailant.

"A test for what?" Terry asked Veridyan as he walked over to the boy.

He stopped and knelt to wipe the blood and gore off his tomahawk before sticking it in his belt. He stood up and rested the barrel of his rifle against his shoulder.

"And for that matter, how did you get us out of the lab?"

Veridyan smirked. "A test to see if you could save the universe of course! I couldn't do it alone, so I needed people who would be strong enough and willful enough to do everything it took, that's what I was testing for, and you passed!"

He watched as the rest of the group gathered near him. He turned to Rija "Woah, woah, woah, don't call me that! I'm the one getting you out of here, and you were never in any danger." He turned back to Terry. "As for the whole getting-you-outta-the-lab thing, it's simple; I didn't. Heck, you guys are all still frozen!"

Rytt listened carefully to Ferro. "It's good to know, I seemed to get the luck of the draw with you two, but I'll be honest, the task I need your help with will put us at odds with other groups a bit bigger than just two people, so you both will have to use those brains." He put a hand on both Ferro's and Alex's shoulder.

"Ready to get started?"

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elaryse turned to Rodin.

"It's simple really, I wake you up, and we get started. Are all of you ready? The world your entering won't be as hospitable as the past you're used to."

This did it for Henko. He let go of Rin's hand stormed up to Veridyan. He grabbed him by the collar and activated Heavy Brutality on his arm. He held it ready to strike.

"Start talking." He demanded of the insane commander of undead.

Terry thought about getting Henko off of Veridyan, but decided that Henko's tactic might actually get some more straight answers out of the boy.

"And be more directing in your talking." He suggested to Veridyan.

"Wait what!? What the hell are you talking about?" Koizumi flexed her fingers, which seemed to be working just fine. "But that can't be true, we're moving around this very moment aren't we?" Yet again, she thought, it's weird; I didn't see any bits of ice or water on the ground, I mean, it would be there when we woke up right? Koizumi kept her distance away from Henko and Veridyan, about a good few feet away. She kept one gun out in her hand to be prepared for what Veridyan had up his sleeve if he were to try anything

Veridyan stared at Henko silently for a moment, then smiled. Just as he did, though, his mouth seemed to disappear entirely. He pointed to his face which no seemed to only have two eyes and a nose and proceeded to shrug at Henko. After a few seconds he suddenly evaporated and reappeared a few meters away.

"Yeah, you definitely have a mad-dog complex, could be useful, I guess we'll have to see." He took a few moments to ponder something. "Anyway, if you'd let me get a bit further I'd had explained that it actually makes perfect sense, bro. You've been frozen, what, 200 years? Yeah, so that, combined with your old-timey cryo-systems makes for a whole mess of potential issues. If I just woke you up, you might kill everything in sight or think everything is made of lollipops, I don't know. I had to make sure, that's why I hooked you all to a simulation beforehand to test ya! Guess what you passed, happy Mr. Mad Dog?"

Brutality retracted. "Humph. Sounds legitimate." Henko said. "Nicely planned on your part as well. Taking such precautions were well put. I understand completely. But you said previously that you were testing to see if we're able to save the universe? I have one warning." Grace extended. "I'm much worse than a mad dog."

"Yeah cause this place is so bright and cheery...." Sam mumbled under her breath. "This girl is so annoying" She thought to herself looking around the beach one more time. "Ok lets get out of here" She said looking back over at the girl. Samantha still refused to trust her but it seemed if she was right about the place, this girl would be her only way out of it.

Rin pulled Henko away from Veridyan.

"You need to calm down Henko." She snapped.

Rin looked at Veridyan.

"You also need to calm down. None of us know what's going on." She said seriously.

"I'm itching to streach my legs. The virtual kind don't pump blood through ya the same way." Derik gave a small hardy laugh "and I've been away from my craft too long, anyway. So what are we waiting for?"

Ferro grabbed his companion's shoulder and dragged him a few yards away from Rytt. "Can we trust this guy? Us being in a simulation makes sense, but putting us at odds with other people? I don't want to kill anybody." Ferro paused for a moment. "And I still don't know your name. If we're going to go up against anything, we need to be able to trust each other and work together seamlessly."

"It was inhospitable for me anyways. Came with hacking every major goverment to upload Lolcat videos for the hell of it." Sera muttered loudly. "Anyways..." She looked at the girl.

"Let's do it I guess."

Henko pulled away from Rin. "I think I understand completely." He said. He raised Grace and pointed it at Veridyan.

"You need us." He told him. "So why don't you let us go. Melt our icy prisons and give us the task our destiny holds."

Elaryse glanced around the group.

"Then let's waste no more time."

The horizon suddenly began to go black, it spread, coming closer and closer to the beach, finally it became it clear that the entire world was simply crumbling in front of them. The ocean split apart into strange cubes which then evaporated to nothing. It reached the beach, then them, then...

nothing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Veridyan stretched a bit and then turned to Henko.

"Okay, okay, let's get to it!"

A strange sound could be heard coming in on them from all directions. Then the trees in the distance began to go pitch black, as if nothing was even there. The darkness came closer and closer. Within a few moments the trees surrounding the cabin broke apart in strange pixel-type cubes and then disappeared. It wasn't long until the entire group did too.

"A good start." Veridyan's voice rang out cheerfully.

(Would've been on sooner, but was watching some shows.)

Rodin says:  "Okay.  Let's get going already."  He looks around and notices the environment was fading, with darkness taking its place.  Fearless, Rodin thinks:  The virtual area is going down.  Seems like we really are getting out of here.

"Time's up for your little chat, kids, we gotta go." Rytt seemed somewhat impatient. Suddenly the forest around the airstrip dissipated. "Don't worry," Rytt said as the darkness drew in closer and closer, "we'll have plenty of time to talk soon."

Then there was nothing but darkness.

The carbon-micro glass covering of the cryo pod opened. Freezing solution vapor drifted out of the pod. Seraphim Valentine, Derik Absolon, and Samantha Allison, and Rodin Seefull were left disoriented laying in their pods which formed a circle in the cylindrical room that seemed have no doors. Elaryse was nowhere in sight. Each person was wearing a simple single-piece outfit that acted as a simply covering during the cryo-freeze. They were awake now, and nothing was holding them back from being able to get up and move around. There were no weapons or tools in sight. The only thing in the room besides the cryo-pods was a single console in the center that seemed to act as a sort of holographic display interface. Above the console was a camera with a red light shining from it's lens.
